The Opportunity
The HSE Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and continuously improving the refinery's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management systems. This position provides leadership in regulatory compliance, employee training, emergency preparedness, incident investigations, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement. Working closely with Operations and Maintenance, the HSE Coordinator serves as the refinery's subject matter expert for HSE matters, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, company standards, and industry best practices while supporting safe, reliable, and efficient refinery operations
Work Location & Schedule
- Full-time, onsite position at the refinery near Kerrobert, Saskatchewan.
- Monday to Friday schedule.
- This position requires regular onsite presence and is not intended to be a remote or hybrid role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead refinery HSE programs and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate inspections, audits, regulatory visits, incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Manage the Permit to Work system, safe work procedures and emergency response plans.
- Coordinate HSE training, onboarding, safety meetings and employee competency records.
- Oversee safety and emergency equipment, PPE and environmental monitoring requirements.
- Support high-risk work planning, field inspections and safe work practices.
- Track and report HSE and process safety KPIs and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture and provide HSE support to refinery operations.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering Technology, Power Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of petrochemical, oil & gas or heavy industrial experience.
- Experience delivering training, conducting incident investigations and administering safety management systems.
Skills and Competencies
- Working knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety legislation and environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of refinery operations and process safety.
- Excellent communication, coaching and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems such as WorkHub.
