Overview

Reporting to the IT & AI Specialist, this hands-on AI Co-op role gives students the chance to build real technical experience while contributing to Aryze's AI and technology initiatives. You'll take ownership of an AI initiative, taking it from early idea through to a working solution with guidance from the IT & AI Specialist, and developing the documentation needed to support adoption and ongoing use. Alongside that, you'll help with the team's day-to-day technology needs and support employees as they adopt AI tools. All functions and responsibilities are performed in accordance with Aryze's values and beliefs. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a co-op program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, with some exposure to scripting or programming (Python preferred) and a genuine interest in applied AI. We're less focused on ticking every box than on curious builders with solid fundamentals, an experimental mindset, and the discipline to test and validate AI outputs rather than simply trust them. Will consider a 4, 8 or 12-month co-op term.

Responsibilities

- Own one AI initiative end-to-end, with guidance from the IT & AI Specialist; build it, test it with real users and refine it based on their feedback.

- Help employees understand how to use AI effectively in their day-to-day work and flag where training or process changes would help.

- Support evaluating new AI tools or capabilities.

- Additional related duties within AI or IT, as required

Skills

- Comfortable troubleshooting software and technology issues and communicating solutions clearly to non-technical colleagues.

- Genuine interest in applied AI and how emerging technology can solve real business problems, with familiarity in tools such as Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude or similar large language models.

- Strong problem-solving and written communication skills, with the ability to document technical work clearly and work with non-technical users to gather requirements.

- Self-motivated, organized, curious and resourceful, with a practical approach: comfortable testing ideas quickly, learning from what doesn't work and improving the next version.

- Familiarity or hands-on experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset: Python, JavaScript, REST APIs, Git/GitHub, SQL and databases, Google Workspace and Apps Script, cloud platforms, data visualization and dashboards, workflow automation platforms, prompt engineering, evaluating and validating AI/LLM outputs, LLM APIs, RAG, vector databases and semantic search, AI agents and agentic workflows, document intelligence and application development.

We don't expect a co-op student to know all of these.

We're interested in what you already know, how quickly you can learn what you don't and what you can build with the tools available to you.

Qualifications

Education: Currently enrolled in a post-secondary co-op program in Computer Science, Software

Engineering, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Compensation

Hourly Wage Range: $22-$27/hour

Based on your year of study and demonstrated applied experience. Candidates earlier in their program, or newer to applied AI and automation work, can expect a rate toward the lower end of this range, while final-term students able to independently build and test AI workflows, integrations or applications will be placed toward the higher end.

Term

We offer flexible start dates (January, May, or September) and are open to 4-, 8-, or 12-month terms. Let us know your availability and preferred term length in your application.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment that embraces equity and promotes equal opportunities for all candidates. At Aryze, we recognize the value that people from different backgrounds, lived experiences and perspectives bring to our team, specifically when working within the realm of city-building. We believe that diversity fuels innovation, creativity, success—and fundamentally—better cities for all citizens.
