POSITION TITLE: Heavy Duty Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Heavy Duty Technician is a conscientious and reliable individual. They have a passion for medium and heavy duty vehicles and have experience in repairs and maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles. They take pride in their workmanship and strive for “fixed correct” the first time. They have good time management skills and attention to detail. They are a team player with a positive attitude. They push hard to take excellent care of our customers. Providing honest and reliable services is non-negotiable. They will perform vehicle inspections, diagnose and repair issues. More than anything it is their responsibility to learn, grow, and improve their skills and abilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Achieve productivity, efficiency, reliability/accuracy of repair, and customer satisfaction metrics and goals as established by management/ownership.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire repairs/rotations/changes, brake inspections/servicing, wheel alignments, wheel balancing, coolant and transmission flush, battery replacement, alternator replacement, drive belt replacement, testing/charging starting system
- Perform thorough digital vehicle inspections and provide recommendations for repairs
- Maintain, Diagnose and repair:
- air brake systems
- air suspension and heavy-duty suspension systems
- diesel engines including fuel delivery, turbochargers, cooling intake and exhaust systems
- diesel emissions/after treatment systems, including DPF, DOC, SCR/DEF and EGR Systems
- heavy-duty transmissions, clutches, differentials, driveshafts and driveline components.
- manual and automatic heavy-duty transmissions, clutches, differentials, driveshafts and driveline components.
- heavy-duty electrical and electronic systems including multiplexed/CAN-bus systems
- hydraulic and PTO systems
- wheel-end service including hub, bearing, seal and brake components




- steering and suspension diagnosis and repair
- Perform Commercial Vehicle Inspections in accordance with applicable BC Inspection standards
- Responsible for proper handling of parts and materials regarding warranties, returns, client requests and cores
- Create records of all work performed and parts used
- Use time on job ticket tracking system
- Work with team members to deliver on-time and quality service
- Adhere to shop safety standards, taking all possible precautions to ensure the safety and health of self and others through maintaining a safe work setting
- Pickup and delivery of vehicles or parts
- Adhere to operating procedures, systems and policies established by management/ownership
- Communicating with service advisor team
- Maintain a safe work environment
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment
- Maintain a professional appearance
- Assist with mentoring apprentices and shop helpers
- Test Drive vehicles before and after service/repair
- Shop opening and closing duties
- Attend courses, training and certifications to increase skills, ability, knowledge and value to the company
- Other duties as assigned by the Service Manager or Owner

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

- 5 plus years of experience as a Heavy Duty Technician
- Advanced Technical Knowledge of medium and heavy duty trucks
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving ability
- Knowledge of automotive systems, parts and components
- Attention to detail
- Authorized Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector
- Good Communication Skills:



fluent spoken and written English required
- Ability to navigate interpersonal relationships and navigate conflict as a member of a team
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and clean driving record/abstract
- Must provide own tools and steel-toed safety boots
- Certified Red Seal Heavy Duty Technician in the province of BC including Original Certificates of Qualification/proof of hours/years completed in Program
- Ability to safely handle heavy truck components using appropriate lifting equipment
- Ability to safely climb into and out of commercial vehicles and access elevated vehicle components
- Ability to work underneath raised commercial vehicles and around large/heavy vehicle components
- Valid High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Computer skills: ability to use a web browser, perform web searches, basic excel skills, basic word processors skills
- Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout the day
- Must be able to stand and exert a well-paced mobility for up to 8.5 hours in length on a regular and continuing basis.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and long shifts, including overtime during peak demand when required.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, reach, work overhead and lay prone in a variety of positions and angles
- Must be able to work in an environment that includes the following hazards and be able to wear the appropriate PPE: repeated loud noise exposure, high temperatures and heat stress, working with hazardous chemicals and lubricants, proximity to moving mechanical and hydraulic parts, electrical current

Pay: $46.00-$51.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36.0 – 40.0 per week
