Greater Sudbury

Independent Contractor — Child & Youth Therapist, RSW

Location: Greater Sudbury, ON (in-person)
Position Type: Independent Contractor
Organization: Northern Play Therapy

About Northern Play Therapy

Northern Play Therapy provides trauma-informed, attachment-focused psychotherapy for children, youth, and families. We use play-based and creative approaches to support safety, connection, emotional regulation, and healing.

Our team values robust clinical work, ongoing learning, collaboration, and thoughtful, developmentally appropriate care. Clinicians have opportunities to build specialized skills in areas such as play therapy, attachment-focused practice, trauma treatment, and EMDR.

The Opportunity

Northern Play Therapy is seeking a Registered Social Worker to join our practice as an Independent Contractor, providing in-person psychotherapy to children and youth in Greater Sudbury.

This opportunity is well suited to a clinician who wants the flexibility and independence of contract work while practising within an established child and family therapy practice.

The clinician will primarily provide individual therapy to children and youth, with parent/caregiver consultation and involvement as clinically appropriate.

Northern Play Therapy provides the practice setting and administrative infrastructure so clinicians can focus primarily on their clinical work.

What Northern Play Therapy Provides

- Furnished, child- and youth-friendly therapy space
- Administrative and scheduling support
- Practice management and billing infrastructure
- Referral and intake support
- Marketing and established practice presence
- Access to play therapy materials, therapeutic toys, art supplies, and other clinical resources

Required:

- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW)
- Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
- Professional liability insurance
- Experience or demonstrated interest in working therapeutically with children and youth
- Ability to provide services in person in Greater Sudbury
- Strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and communication skills
- Ability to practise independently within the scope of an independent contractor relationship

Assets:

- Experience working with children, youth, and families

- EMDR training an asset
- Experience with trauma, attachment, anxiety,

emotional regulation, ADHD, autism, grief, or family-related concerns
- Additional training in expressive, creative, somatic, or attachment-focused approaches
- Bilingualism in French and English an asset

Applicants do not need to arrive with extensive specialized training in every area. We are particularly interested in clinicians who are genuinely interested in developing strong skills in child and youth psychotherapy and who value ongoing learning.

Contractor Arrangement

This is an independent contractor position rather than an employment position. Contractors maintain control over their availability and the amount of clinical work they choose to take on, within the needs and operating structure of the practice.

Some late-afternoon or early-evening availability is strongly preferred due to the needs of children, youth, and families.

Compensation: Competitive per-session contractor rate, based on experience, qualifications, and specialized training.

Further details regarding the contractor arrangement, practice supports, expectations, and compensation will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.

How to Apply

Please submit:

- A current résumé
- A brief cover letter outlining your experience with children and youth, relevant clinical training, and interest in joining Northern Play Therapy
- Your general availability, including any late-afternoon or evening availability

Applications must be submitted to [email protected] . Résumés submitted through other methods will not be reviewed.

We appreciate the interest of all applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
