A well-established Alberta-based real estate development and construction company is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join its growing accounting team.
With more than 15 years of experience in investment property development and multi-family residential construction, the organization has built a strong reputation for delivering quality projects and working with established and private land developers, surveyors, consultants, and other industry partners.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Intermediate Accountant will join a small accounting team of 3–4 professionals and play a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and project accounting.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on accounting professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced setting and enjoys having broad exposure across the accounting function.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
- Support monthly and year-end close processes.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Manage accounts payable, including invoice coding, approvals, payments, and vendor reconciliations.
- Assist with accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, and reconciliations.
- Support accounting for real estate development and construction projects.
- Track project costs, expenditures, budgets, and commitments.
- Assist with project financial reporting and analysis.
- Prepare financial schedules and reports for the Controller and management team.
- Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting.
- Support GST and other tax-related filings and schedules.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation and external accounting requirements.
- Work with project managers, vendors, consultants, and other stakeholders to resolve accounting matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
- Assist the Controller with ad hoc accounting and financial analysis projects.
Candidate Profile
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience within real estate development, construction, property accounting, or project accounting is an asset.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organization and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is an asset.
