The Chilko Experience
Canada
Season: Mid-May to end of October
Compensation: $850–$1,000 per week (depending on experience and time with the company) + overtime + tips
Includes: Accommodation and meals provided on-site
Commitment: We are seeking someone able to commit to multiple seasons (2–3+ preferred). We are a seasonal lodge, open May to October, with staff season typically running end of April to end of October. For the right candidate, there may also be winter caretaker work available (on a separate pay scale).
About Chilko
The Chilko Experience is a boutique wilderness lodge in British Columbia's Chilcotin region. We host small guest groups (typically 12–16) and take pride in delivering a seamless, safe and high-standard experience in a truly remote setting. Reliable, skilled maintenance is absolutely essential to our operations — and this role sits at the heart of that.
The Role
We're looking for a skilled and proactive Lodge Maintenance Technician to keep our property, buildings and infrastructure in excellent condition. The ideal candidate will bring robust hands-on experience in at least one of the following core trade areas: carpentry, plumbing or electrical. These are our highest priority skills for this role.
Mechanical ability is very welcome and will be well used here — we have trucks, ATVs, boats and generators that all require regular attention — but trade skills in carpentry, plumbing or electrical are what we're primarily looking for.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in problem-solving, and works well independently within a small and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
Primary (Trade Skills)
- Carpentry repairs and maintenance across lodge buildings and structures
- Plumbing maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting
- Electrical troubleshooting and repairs within scope and safety guidelines — knowing when to call in a certified professional where required
- General property maintenance and preventative upkeep to a high standard
Additional
- Maintain and repair trucks, ATVs, boats and small engines
- Generator maintenance and troubleshooting
- Groundskeeping and gardening support (trimming, tidying, seasonal upkeep)
- Equipment safety checks and proactive preventative maintenance
- Maintain clear logs of work completed, parts required and recurring issues
- Communicate effectively with management around priorities and timelines
You'll Be a Great Fit If You...
- Have strong, hands-on experience in carpentry, plumbing or electrical — at least one of these is essential
- You're flexible and adaptable — lodge life in a remote setting can throw curveballs, and the ability to pivot quickly and prioritise urgent issues as they arise is essential. No two days look the same here, and we need someone who thrives in that environment rather than finding it frustrating
- Are a capable problem-solver who takes pride in a job well done
- Are organised, proactive and safety-minded
- Can work independently in a remote setting with changing priorities
- Bring calm, steady energy to a small team environment
- Are committed to returning for multiple seasons and growing with the role
- Mechanical ability is a genuine bonus — experience with boats, ATVs, trucks or generators is very welcome
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated trade experience in carpentry, plumbing or electrical (formal qualification preferred)
- Some knowledge with boat, ATV or truck repairs
- Generator experience
- Remote lodge or camp experience
