Junior Interior Designer & Drafter

Datum Homes builds high-end custom homes where the details actually matter. We're hiring a junior designer and drafter to work directly under our lead designer, taking on the SketchUp drafting and presentation work that moves our projects forward.

Read this part carefully, because it's the whole job.

We are not looking for a second design voice. Our lead designer sets the aesthetic. What we need is someone precise, fast, and relentlessly organized who can execute that vision in SketchUp and in Canva, and free her up to focus on design.

If you are the kind of person who is bothered by a dimension that reads 11.998 instead of 12, by a layer that isn't named, by text that sits a few pixels off-center on a page, this role is for you. If that sounds like unnecessary fuss, it isn't.

What you'll do

- Build and clean up models in SketchUp: convert paper floor plans, DWG files, and rough models into precise, well-organized SketchUp files our lead designer can work from.

- Prepare client-facing presentations in Canva: elevations, floor plans, labels, dimensions, and area calculations, laid out consistently and cleanly, ready to print or show.

- Grow into more design and materials work over time. Coordinating with suppliers and sourcing materials can become part of the role as you develop, but it is not the focus of the hire.

What we require

- Real, demonstrated proficiency in SketchUp. Not "I've opened it a few times." You should be comfortable with tags and layers, scenes, components, and clean modeling, and you should be able to hand over a file that another person can immediately understand and use.

- Precision and organization as a default habit, not something you switch on when asked.

- Working proficiency in Canva,



or the ability to show us equivalent presentation work. You don't need to be an expert, but you can't be starting from zero.

- The drive of someone early in their career who wants to get very good at this. We would rather hire someone hungry and motivated who learns fast than someone senior and set in their ways.

- Bonus: experience with Enscape for rendering. This is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

A degree is not required and is not a differentiator. Job title is flexible; if "drafter" describes you better than "designer," you may still be exactly who we want.

Shortlisted applicants will then be asked to send us one existing SketchUp file. It does not need to be new or impressive in scope.

A simple house, four walls, two windows, a door, and a roof, is enough. What we will be looking at is how you work: whether you use tags and layers to organize the model, whether components are named, whether the geometry is clean with no missing lines, and whether your dimensions are precise.

That file tells us more than any claim of proficiency, so don't tell us you're detail-oriented; show us.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
