Wallace Coffee Service by JJ Bean Coffee Roasters
Canada
Service Technician / Service Coordinator
Location: 1904 Powell Street, Vancouver, BC
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Starting Wage: $25–$30/hour, based on experience, with opportunities for wage increases after the first 6 months
About JJ Bean / Wallace Coffee Service
JJ Bean exists to honour people through great coffee, service, food, and spaces.
Our service team helps keep that experience running every day. We support 24 JJ Bean cafés, more than 300 wholesale clients, and over 60 service accounts throughout the Lower Mainland.
We’re looking for someone who is organized, mechanically minded, enjoys solving problems, and wants to learn both the technical and customer-service side of a commercial equipment service business.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced technicians while learning how coffee equipment is installed, maintained, and repaired — as well as how service calls, customers, parts, and work orders are managed.
If you enjoy working with your hands, communicating with people, figuring things out, and taking pride in getting the job done properly, we’d like to hear from you.
The Role
As a Service Technician / Service Coordinator, you’ll be an important part of our three-person service team.
The role combines hands-on technical work with service coordination and administration.
A significant part of your responsibility will be coordinating the team’s daily service work — receiving service requests, scheduling technicians, creating and updating work orders, communicating with customers, and making sure service calls are followed through from start to finish.
At the same time, you’ll work alongside our technicians to learn how commercial coffee equipment and other café equipment are diagnosed, maintained, installed, and repaired.
Over time, you’ll develop an understanding of:
- How our equipment works
- How to troubleshoot and repair common equipment issues
- Our customers and their individual service needs
- How to prioritize service calls
- How to schedule preventative maintenance
- How to source and organize parts
- How to manage work orders
- How a professional service operation runs day to day
You will be based at our Powell Street location and will regularly travel throughout the Lower Mainland.
Thursday and Friday mornings begin at 5:00 AM to perform preventative maintenance at our cafés.
What You’ll DoService Coordination
- Receive and respond to service requests from JJ Bean cafés, wholesale customers, and service accounts
- Schedule and coordinate daily service calls for the technician team
- Prioritize urgent repairs and preventative maintenance
- Create, update, and close service work orders
- Track outstanding repairs and follow up to ensure jobs are completed
- Communicate with café managers, customers, suppliers, and technicians
- Keep customers informed about service status, scheduling, parts, and follow-up requirements
- Help organize the team’s daily schedule and workflow
- Source parts and help maintain parts inventory
- Keep service records and documentation organized
- Learn our customers, their equipment, and their individual service requirements
Technical & Hands-On Work
- Work alongside experienced technicians and learn commercial coffee equipment service
- Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of café equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance at JJ Bean locations
- Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and equipment issues
- Assist with equipment repairs in our workshop
- Eventually take on service and repair work independently as your skills develop
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs
- Complete furniture, fixture, hardware, and minor plumbing repairs
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop
- Travel between locations as required
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is organized, mechanically inclined, reliable, curious, and comfortable figuring things out.
You don’t need to be an expert in coffee equipment. We can teach the right person the specialized equipment and systems used in our cafés.
More importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to learn and grow with the role.
You should have:
- A valid Class 5 driver’s licence
- A clean and responsible driving record
- Comfort driving throughout the Lower Mainland
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Comfort using hand and power tools
- A willingness to learn technical and mechanical skills
- Strong attention to detail
- A sense of urgency when responding to service issues
- Good communication and customer-service skills
- The ability to communicate professionally with customers and suppliers
- The ability to work independently while also being a strong team player
- Comfort using mobile devices, computers, and digital work-order systems
- The ability to stay organized when managing multiple service requests at the same time
Experience in any of the following is an asset:
- Commercial coffee equipment
- Espresso machines and coffee grinders
- Electrical or electronics
- Plumbing
- HVAC or refrigeration
- Millwright or mechanical trades
- Automotive or equipment repair
- Construction or building maintenance
- Appliance repair
- General maintenance
- Other skilled trades
- Service coordination or dispatching
- Customer service or technical support
Experience with Google Workspace or accounting/service software is also an asset.
What We Provide
- $25–$30/hour starting wage, based on experience
- Opportunities for wage increases after the first 6 months
- Company vehicle provided for on-call and early-morning service work
- Partial cell phone reimbursement
- Monday–Friday schedule
- Hands-on training from experienced technicians
- Training in commercial coffee equipment and service
- The opportunity to develop both technical and service-management skills
- The opportunity to learn how a professional service operation works
- A supportive team environment
- The opportunity to work with a wide range of commercial equipment and customers
Why JJ Bean / Wallace Coffee Service?
This isn’t a traditional office coordinator position, and it’s not simply a technician position either.
You’ll learn both sides of the business.
You’ll spend time in the field learning how equipment is repaired and maintained, while also learning how service calls are scheduled, customers are supported, work orders are managed, and preventative maintenance is organized.
You’ll get to know our cafés, wholesale customers, service accounts, equipment, suppliers, and technicians.
For the right person, this role can become a strong foundation for a career in technical service, equipment repair, service coordination, or service management.
If you’re the type of person who likes to figure things out, stay organized, help people, and keep things moving when something breaks, you’ll fit right in.
We’re looking to fill this position as soon as possible.
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
