About the Role
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Tool and Die Maker support the design, fabrication, maintenance, repair, and improvement of tooling, molds, dies, fixtures, and specialized manufacturing equipment used in the production of vehicles and related components.
Working closely with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams, the successful candidate will apply strong machining, fabrication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills to support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Tooling and Die Fabrication:
· Build, modify, repair, and maintain dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, templates, and specialized manufacturing tooling.
· Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications to manufacture tooling components.
· Machine, fit, assemble, adjust, and test parts or tooling to ensure proper function and dimensional accuracy.
· Operate machine shop equipment, including manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, band saws, and precision measuring tools.
· Set up, operate and maintain CNC machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape workpiece to prescribed dimensions and finish.
· Maintain accurate measurements using precision tools and gauges.
· Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as verniers, callipers micrometers and electronic measuring devices.
· Create replacement tooling components when required.
Mold and Fixtures:
· Assist with the construction, maintenance, and modification of production molds and fixtures.
· Support prototype and production tooling projects.
· Work with Engineering to improve tooling performance, durability, and manufacturability.
· Ensure molds and fixtures meet production and quality requirements.
Tooling Maintenance and Repair:
· Inspect tooling for wear, damage, or performance issues.
· Diagnose tooling failures and identify root causes.
· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on tooling and dies.
· Maintain records of tooling repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
Engineering Support:
· Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
· Support implementation of engineering changes and tooling modifications.
· Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
· Provide technical input on tooling design and manufacturability.
Quality and Safety:
· Ensure all tooling is manufactured and maintained to established quality standards.
· Follow all safety procedures and safe work practices.
· Maintain a clean and organized work area.
· Identify opportunities to improve workplace safety and tooling reliability.
Qualifications
· Experience operating shop equipment and CNC machine tools, using precision measuring instruments, and supporting custom production.
Technical Skills
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Remuneration: $23 to $30 per hour
