The Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association (OFVGA) is seeking an energetic individual to join our growing team as a full-time Administrative Assistant. Our ideal candidate is a self starter with the ability to work in a energetic and quick paced environment. They will possess a desire to support Ontario farmers by contributing to the organization’s success through their detail-oriented program administrative support.
The ideal candidate will work as part of a small and integrated team that thrives in an environment with shifting priorities. You will bring an ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the organization.

Responsibilities and accountabilities
- Support the Program Manager with the administration, planning, communication and promotion of the various OFVGA run programs such as the Northern Fruit and Vegetable Program, Fresh from the Farm school fundraising and the Farm Products Container Licence Fee program.
- Provide administrative support to the Accountant with data entry, invoicing and file management.
- Assist staff in the planning, coordination and attendance at industry related events such as the OFVGA annual general meeting, Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention, OFVGA Lobby Days, The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and Breakfast on the Farm.
- Perform a variety of administrative and clerical activities as required.
- Review, modify and prepare comprehensive templates, letters, reports, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents,
Excel workbooks and other materials.
- Research, compile and summarize information/data as applicable.
- Maintain electronic and paper filing systems.
- Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an excellent attention to detail (primarily in English but a working knowledge of French would be an asset).
- Have excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, while meeting tight deadlines.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment to triage urgent issues and respond to stakeholders under strict timelines.
- Be a self-starter, eager to take initiative and anticipate needs.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive team.
- Be able to provide a high level of customer service excellence (written and verbal) to all program stakeholders.
Education and experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in administration, finance or related work experience.
· Minimum of 2 years of program administrative experience in a professional working environment.
- Proficient with computer applications including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Working knowledge with QuickBooks.
- Experience in the Ontario agriculture,
horticulture or produce industry would be considered an asset.
Compensation and benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience; benefit program, matching RRSP contributions and vacation allocation
- Based at the OFVGA office in Guelph, Ontario, with work from home opportunities
- Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30, with flexibility for some evenings and/or weekends as needed
Working Environment:
- Works in an office environment
- May be required to work outside of normal business hours to attend some weekend/evening meetings
- May be required to participate in on-farm (sites with variable conditions, equipment, etc.) events, including for tours or other meetings.
- Some travel is required; candidate must have a valid passport and driver’s licence, and have access to a reliable motor vehicle
