The Position:

We are looking for a well-versed Mechanical Design Engineer with a foundation in cooling and hydronic system design to champion the design of cooling and fluid distribution systems in our line of modular containers. This includes pump and pipe sizing and chilled-water loop design. Qualified candidates should have a deep understanding of standard valve, pump, and pipe sizing, including industry standards and common practices.

You will be working closely with our sheet metal manufacturing team to ensure a cohesive design and project execution in a quick-paced environment, with rapidly changing goals and priorities.

Job Responsibilities:

- Design cooling and fluid distribution systems — HVAC, chilled-water loops, pumps, piping, valves, and heat rejection for modular data center containers, covering both air-cooled and direct liquid-cooled configurations.
- Size and specify components such as pumps, fans, heat exchangers, valves, and fittings based on engineering calculations and simulations using tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or fluid simulation software
- Perform flow and pressure-drop calculations, including heat load and pump-head sizing for water/glycol coolant systems and rack-level thermal requirements.
- Develop P&IDs;, piping layouts,



and equipment schedules, and coordinate with vendors for custom heat exchangers, dry coolers, and coolant distribution units (CDU’s)
- Design for redundancy and concurrent maintenance, including valve replacement and isolation for servicing without loop shutdown.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Design sheet-metal components and assemblies with appropriate gauges and tolerances, and work with manufacturing to ensure suitability for DFM/DFA.

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience (Required):

- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering HVAC design.
- SolidWorks experience with mechanical assemblies;
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- Experience designing chilled-water/hydronic cooling systems, pump sizing, valve selection, and pressure-drop/flow-balancing calculations.

Experience (Ideal):

- Experience in mechanical engineering design for data centers
- Experience with direct liquid cooling, CDUs, or high-density rack cooling
- Familiarity with redundancy topologies
- Familiarity with North American Design Standards (ASHRAE, mechanical/energy codes)
- Sheet metal design and manufacturing experience
- P.Eng Designation.
- Experience with Hysopt software.

Technical Skills:

- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including Sheet Metal Design, simulation, and complex assembly modelling




- Fluid-flow and thermal modelling software (CFD, ANSYS Fluent) — airflow distribution, pressure drops, and heat-transfer optimization
- Hydronic component knowledge: pump/system-curve analysis and selection of shutoff, check, balancing, and 2-way/3-way control valves
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, specifically with metal fabrication and HVAC assembly

Schedule:

- Monday to Thursday, 8 am - 5:30 pm
- Friday, 9 am - 3 pm
