This is a salary position within Shaw’s Enterprises Ltd as a Spool Truck Operator. It is a technically a 24/7 on-call position but will have busy and slow times. Flexible time off after the initial training period. The truck is based in Nisku, AB and ideally the candidate is within 30-40 minutes of the shop for everyone’s convenience. The job sites can be anywhere in Western Canada but are most commonly in Alberta. There will be short days and long days and one needs to be prepared to be away overnight occasionally. The actual job time is 2-4hrs on site but there is also the time needed to drive to and from the job. Sometimes there is also waiting time on site.

A company phone is provided, co-pay health and dental benefits after 3 months and profit sharing for employees that start prior to August 31 and are still employed by years end.

There are 3 initial tiers for salary.

- $5,500/month - Train on equipment, learn procedure and show competency with the tasks (approximately 3 months). During this phase I will buy meals and hotel rooms when away on jobs.
- $6,500/month – Once they can operate all the equipment independently and perform basic jobs going out to drilling rigs and cranes. These are the least complex.
- $7,500/month – Once they can perform sandline inspection & installation.



They will need more knowledge of wire rope and repeated training until they can do the job safely. This part will take several more months to complete.

Driving is key to this position. The candidate must have their own reliable transportation to and from work. As well, they will be driving a Kenworth body job truck and will need to either have, or get, their class 3 license with air brakes. If they do not have a class 3 license with air brakes, Shaw’s will pay for the training & testing. There are other safety courses that are considered an asset such as; H2S, First Aid, CSO, WHMIS & TDG. They will have to use an electronic logbook and follow commercial driving standards.

There are many physical requirements for the job such as lifting +50lbs, twisting, climbing, bending over, kneeling, and swinging a hammer with precision. Attention to detail is necessary. A fit test will need to be completed and will be paid for by Shaw’s.

There will also be miscellaneous yard work as needed but this is usually flexible as to when things need to be done.

The company buys all PPE.
