The City of Abbotsford’s Operations division and the Parks, Recreation & Culture division currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join their teams as the full time Urban Forestry Technician II. In this key position, you will lead the field coordination and administration of the City’s Tree Management Bylaw. This includes reviewing incoming tree permit applications, assessing trees to determine permit or protection requirements, inspecting replacement trees and determining compliance with the Tree Management Bylaw. As the Urban Forestry Technician II, you will bring considerable knowledge of practices, software, tools and equipment used in the work.

Your knowledge of municipal planning and development processes, bylaw administration, urban forest management methodologies and arboriculture will be essential to the role. Your advanced communication and customer services skills will assist you in maintaining effective working relationships with City staff, developers, landowners, contractors and the public.

Reporting to the Manager of Urban Forestry and the Manager of Parks Planning,



the incumbent contributes to the City’s Urban Forest strategy to enhance urban forest health and canopy cover. Performance is evaluated in terms of quality of work, ability to work both independently and collaboratively, management of workloads and priorities, and adherence to established standards. This is a unique opportunity to support work both within Parks Operations and Parks, Recreation and Culture Planning & Business Services.

Qualifications Required:

- Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Urban Planning or Bylaw Administration.
- Minimum two years’ experience in urban forestry. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.)
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- International Society of Arboriculture Certification (ISA) and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification
