Paving Foreman

DeFord Contracting Inc. is looking for an experienced Paving Foreman for Civil Construction city projects in and around the Greater Edmonton Area. DeFord is a leading contractor in Edmonton, Alberta, specializing in municipal road projects, subdivision land development, parking lots, and other key infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate all paving crew activities, ensuring effective workflow and adherence to project specifications.
- Read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure proper execution of work.
- Oversee the placement, compaction, and finishing of asphalt to ensure quality standards are met.
- Train, mentor, and support crew members to maximize productivity and maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure all labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors are on site when necessary.
- Input timesheets for crew members, equipment and quantities on a daily basis.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients.
- Ensure materials, equipment, and labour are utilized efficiently and effectively.
- Complete any documentation necessary such as hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, incident reports, etc..
- Troubleshoot issues in office and implement effective solutions to maintain project schedules.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in paving, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 considered an asset) with a CLEAN driving abstract.
- Extensive knowledge of asphalt paving processes, materials, and equipment operation.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and direct a crew.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and a strong understanding of safety regulations.
