Job Overview

Apex Testing Inc. is seeking a reliable and motivated Construction Materials Testing Technician to perform field and laboratory testing throughout Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas.

This is a hands-on role involving work at active construction sites. The successful candidate will assist with testing soil, concrete and asphalt to confirm compliance with project specifications. Previous materials-testing experience is an asset, but training can be provided to the right candidate.

Responsibilities

- Perform soil and aggregate compaction testing using a nuclear density gauge
- Conduct fresh concrete testing, including slump, air content, temperature and casting cylinders
- Collect soil, aggregate, concrete and asphalt samples
- Perform basic laboratory testing, including sieve analyses, moisture contents and Proctor testing
- Accurately record field results and prepare testing reports
- Communicate professionally with contractors, consultants and clients
- Maintain testing equipment and company vehicles
- Follow all company, site and radiation-safety procedures
- Travel to various project sites throughout Southwestern Ontario

Qualifications

- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence and a reliable driving record
- Ability to travel to different job sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions




- Ability to lift approximately 50 lb
- Strong attention to detail and dependable attendance
- Comfortable working independently
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Civil engineering or construction-related education is an asset
- CCIL certification and nuclear-density-gauge experience are assets
- Previous concrete, soil, aggregate or asphalt-testing experience is an asset

Schedule

Hours will vary according to project requirements. Early mornings, occasional evenings and weekend work may be required. Candidates must be comfortable with a flexible construction schedule.
