About The Busby Centre

The Busby Centre provides housing-focused services to individuals experiencing homelessness across Simcoe County. Guided by our belief that Everybody Is Somebody, we work to ensure people have access to safe housing and the supports necessary to maintain stability and dignity.

Our programs operate within a Housing First, trauma-informed, and harm reduction framework, supporting individuals as they transition from crisis toward permanent housing.

Position Summary

The Bridge Housing Worker provides onsite support to individuals staying in the Bridge Housing program. This program offers short-term housing for individuals transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing.

Bridge Housing Workers help create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment while encouraging participants to work toward housing stability.

This is a dynamic role where staff may support participants with daily needs, respond to crises, de-escalate conflicts, and assist with the overall operation of the program.

Please note: This is a PERMANENT contract, subject to yearly renewal based on employee performance and the availability of sufficient program funding. There are currently ONE (1) FULL-TIME overnight position (7pm to 7am).

LOCATION: Barrie, Ontario

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Build respectful relationships with program participants

· Provide day-to-day support and encouragement

· Conduct wellness checks and monitor program spaces

· Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation techniques

· Assist participants in accessing community resources and services

· Support participants in connecting with their external case managers

· Maintain accurate shift notes and incident reports

· Assist with maintaining a safe and clean program environment

· Bridge Housing Workers provide basic case management/brief service support, while primary case management may be delivered by external service providers.





QUALIFICATIONS:

· Diploma in Social Service Worker, Community Services, or related field preferred

· Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use

· Experience in shelter, outreach, or supportive housing is an asset

· Strong communication and conflict resolution skills

· Ability to respond calmly in crisis situations

· Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, and Housing First principles

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Contract, starting as soon as possible. The available positions may entail a flexible schedule, encompassing day, evening and night shifts or a combination of all, as well as weekday and weekend shifts. This position works in a direct capacity with vulnerable individuals experiencing a myriad of challenges.

SCHEDULE:

Contract, starting as soon as possible. The Bridge Housing program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Bridge Housing Worker may be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays, in order to support program operations and staff coverage. Flexibility may be required to respond to urgent operational needs.
