Packaging Development & Engineer - Markdale, ON
Our client is an established manufacturer within the consumer products sector, recognized for developing practical, high-quality, and environmentally conscious packaging solutions. The organization combines modern manufacturing capabilities with a strong focus on efficiency, innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Our client is currently looking for a Packaging Development & Engineering Lead to oversee the design, development, testing, and implementation of packaging solutions. This position will play a key role in taking packaging concepts through development and commercialization while ensuring that solutions meet quality, cost, performance, manufacturing, and sustainability requirements.

Responsibilities
- Lead packaging development initiatives from initial concept through testing, validation, production implementation, and launch.
- Coordinate multiple packaging projects while maintaining timelines, priorities, budgets, and deliverables.
- Develop packaging specifications, technical standards, testing procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Research and assess current packaging materials, formats, technologies, and sustainable alternatives.
- Plan and oversee packaging trials, production-line testing, validation activities, and manufacturing scale-ups.
- Partner with suppliers, packaging converters, manufacturers, and other external partners to develop and improve packaging solutions.
- Investigate packaging and production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Improve packaging designs to enhance production efficiency, equipment compatibility, product protection, and supply chain performance.
- Evaluate packaging performance through appropriate testing, including transportation, durability, shelf-life, and product protection assessments.
- Ensure packaging solutions comply with applicable regulatory, labeling,
environmental, and industry requirements.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, Sales, and Marketing teams to align technical projects with organizational objectives.
- Provide technical leadership on packaging materials, emerging technologies, process improvements, and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in packaging engineering, packaging development, or product commercialization.
- Experience within consumer packaged goods, food manufacturing, or a related manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Experience managing packaging projects from initial development through commercial production.
- Strong understanding of packaging materials such as flexible films, paperboard, plastics, labels, and recyclable or sustainable alternatives.
- Experience with packaging trials, validation processes, performance testing, and technical troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of packaging equipment, manufacturing processes, production-line requirements, and industry performance standards.
- Strong understanding of transportation testing, product protection, shelf-life considerations, and packaging durability.
- Experience working with suppliers, converters, contract manufacturers, and other external technical partners.
- Familiarity with packaging regulations, labeling requirements, environmental standards, and relevant industry practices.
- Strong project management, analytical, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
