Guardlion Safety Consulting Inc. is seeking a motivated Part time Junior Safety Advisor to join our team and support a variety of occupational health and safety projects throughout the Edmonton area.
This position is well suited for an emerging safety professional who has foundational health and safety knowledge and is looking to gain practical experience working with multiple employers and industries. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced safety consultants and have opportunities to develop their skills in safety program implementation, inspections, hazard assessments, documentation, and client support.
Position Details
- Position: Junior Safety Advisor
- Employment Type: Part-Time
- Location: Edmonton and surrounding area
- Schedule: Flexible and based on project/client requirements
- Work Environment: Combination of office/remote work and client work sites
- Travel: Local travel to client locations may be required
Key Responsibilities
The Junior Safety Advisor will assist with:
- Conducting workplace and work-site health and safety inspections.
- Assisting with hazard assessments and the identification of appropriate control measures.
- Reviewing and updating health and safety policies, procedures, safe work practices, and related documentation.
- Supporting the development and implementation of occupational health and safety management systems.
- Assisting clients with maintaining health and safety records and documentation.
- Reviewing safety documentation for completeness and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Assisting with incident investigations and corrective-action follow-up.
- Supporting workplace orientations, toolbox meetings, and other safety-related activities.
- Conducting research on applicable occupational health and safety legislation and industry requirements.
- Preparing professional reports,
correspondence, and other client deliverables.
- Supporting senior safety consultants with client projects and other assigned duties.
- Travelling to client work sites as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while following directions from senior consultants
- Must have a valid internal auditor certification with the Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships (AASP).
- A certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or be currently completing a recognized OHS program.
- Approximately 1–3 years of occupational health and safety experience is preferred; however, strong entry-level candidates will be considered.
- Working knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation.
- An understanding of hazard assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and basic safety-management principles.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Professional judgment and the ability to interact effectively with clients, supervisors, and workers.
- A willingness to learn and develop within the occupational health and safety profession.Additional Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Reliable vehicle and ability to travel to client locations.
- Ability to work flexible hours depending on project requirements.
- Ability to attend industrial, construction, commercial, and other work environments as required.
- Relevant safety certifications such as First Aid, CSTS, WHMIS, H2S Alive, or similar training are considered assets.
- NCSO designation or progress toward a recognized safety designation is considered an asset.
