We are accepting applications for a full time Instructor-in-Charge – Mobile Burn Unit Operations position. The Instructor‑in‑Charge (IIC) has overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, and protected execution of all live‑fire training evolutions conducted in the mobile burn unit. This role provides command and instructional oversight for the evolution. We are looking for individuals who are able to operate in a fast-paced and energetic work environment; will effectively integrate into a team; and are respectful and professional with co-workers, management, and clients.

Major duties

- Overall authority for the live‑fire training evolution and instructional objectives
- Ensures compliance with NFPA 1403 requirements for live‑fire training exercises
- Confirms all instructors, students, and support personnel meet prerequisite training and PPE requirements




- Coordinates with the Safety Officer and Ignition Officer before, during, and after each evolution
- Conducts pre‑burn briefings, outlines objectives, hazards, emergency procedures, and termination criteria
- Ensures proper staffing, EMS availability, water supply, and contingency planning
- Terminates or modifies training evolutions if unsafe conditions develop

Qualifications & Experience

- Meets Fire Instructor II qualifications as defined by NFPA 1041
- Demonstrated experience in live‑fire training operations
- Thorough knowledge of the mobile burn unit’s design, controls, and safety systems

Reporting Relationship

- Designated by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
- Maintains direct communication with the Safety Officer and Ignition Officer
