Summary
The Underground Utilities Superintendent is responsible for the safe and efficient planning, execution and completion of underground utility and road-related projects or multiple job sites to the required specifications. This role is a field leader who oversees day-to-day operations, coordinates crews and subcontractors, enforces safety and quality standards, and resolves issues that arise on-site.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

- Ensure sufficient deployment and productivity of excavation, trenching, shoring, and utility installation crews.
- Communicate proactively with Project Managers, Operations Managers and Division Managers and report any issues that could affect project plans, schedule, budget, or safety.
- Allocate resources to achieve project safety, schedule, cost, scope, and quality objectives.
- Coordinate the timely ordering, delivery and stockpiling of pipe, fittings, backfill, bedding material, drainage systems, and other underground materials.
- Organize and coordinate daily activities of crew members, subcontractors, inspectors, and equipment; apply corrective actions to keep the project on time and on budget.
- Ensure accurate measurement and documentation of completed work for timely progress billings and contract compliance.
- Identify and implement best practices for efficient use of construction materials, spoil management, and restoration of road surfaces.
- Plan work sequencing to minimize rework and maximize progress while maintaining public access and traffic control requirements.
- Review and adhere to construction schedules and ensure milestones and completion dates are met.




- Oversee the performance of all subcontractors and third-party utility contractors to ensure work is completed to specification.
- Read and interpret project plans, utility drawings, as-builts, permits, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s Code of Ethics; evaluate situations through that lens.
- Complete other related duties as required.

Supervision

- Monitor and manage employee attendance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members, and notifying employees of rain days, prior to the start of the work.
- Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead, and direct crews.
- Liaise between the company and employees on a variety of employee related matters.
- Comply with relevant legislation regarding employee management, terminations, and resignations.
- Handle and thoroughly investigate all employee concerns.
- Liaise with the Human Resource department on a variety of employee related issues, including recruitment, employee development, benefits, training, terminations, and investigations.
- Ensure consistent and fair application of the progressive disciplinary policy, as necessary.
- Other supervisor duties as required

Safety and Teamwork

Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

- Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite,



and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Participate as a team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
- Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Class 5 Drivers License required

Working Conditions

- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Work may be performed in an indoor setting, which could include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, and extended computer use including exposure to blue-light and wrist dexterity.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Pay: $60.00-$70.00 per hour
