Electrical Buyer
Are you an experienced procurement professional with deep technical expertise in electrical systems and materials? Do you thrive in a fast-paced contracting setting, managing high-volume purchasing and driving strategic cost savings across multiple business entities? Are you looking for a high-impact role where you can leverage your established supplier relationships and industry background to lead project procurement?
If so, our Projects Department is looking for YOU to join us as our new Electrical Buyer.
We are seeking a seasoned, detail-oriented Electrical Buyer to manage end-to-end procurement and supply chain operations for our electrical construction and service projects. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the timely, cost-effective acquisition of specialized electrical materials (including high/medium-voltage equipment, conduit, wire, switchgear, distribution systems, and lighting), maintaining rigorous budget controls, and driving workflow efficiency across our projects.
As an Electrical Buyer, you will oversee essential procurement activities, including strategic sourcing, competitive vendor negotiations, purchase order administration, and supply chain logistics. Your market knowledge and attention to detail will directly safeguard project margins and schedules, ensuring operations are seamless, compliant, and aligned with company project goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Materials Sourcing: Lead the sourcing and procurement of electrical equipment, specialized systems, and commodity materials, proactively resolving supply chain bottlenecks, lead-time constraints, and material discrepancies.
- Quoting, Bidding & Negotiations: Spearhead the solicitation, compilation, and rigorous analysis of quotes and tenders from electrical distributors and manufacturers, negotiating competitive pricing, volume discounts, and favorable terms.
- Purchase Order Management: Authorize, issue, and manage purchase orders accurately and promptly, ensuring all technical specifications, vendor agreements,
and delivery schedules are thoroughly documented.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong commercial relationships with key electrical wholesalers, manufacturers, and trade suppliers to secure preferred pricing, priority fulfillment, and reliable service.
- Compliance, Tracking & Cost Control: Rigorously monitor order tracking (order placement, transit, job-site delivery) and reconcile purchase orders against shipping manifests and invoices to ensure compliance before authorizing payments.
- Project & Subcontractor Support: Partner closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Site Superintendents to assess bills of materials (BOMs), track project submittals, and coordinate procurement needs for subcontracted scopes.
- Inventory & Logistics Coordination: Oversee logistics, delivery scheduling, and inventory coordination to ensure critical path materials arrive at job sites on schedule while minimizing storage costs and scrap.
- Process Improvement & Additional Duties: Identify opportunities to optimize procurement workflows, streamline vendor onboarding, and support ad-hoc operational initiatives across the department.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Electrical Expertise: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical procurement, electrical wholesale/distribution, or purchasing within an electrical contractor environment.
- Deep Industry & Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive, practical understanding of commercial and industrial electrical materials, switchgear, distribution panels, controls, wire/cable, and lighting systems, with the ability to interpret single-line diagrams, engineering specs, and project take-offs.
- Commercial & Negotiation Acumen:
Proven track record in supplier negotiation, contract administration, and price trend analysis across electrical commodities.
- System & Analytical Expertise: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel for data management and reporting) and solid experience working within ERP/purchasing software platforms.
- Communication & Leadership: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal project teams, executive leadership, and external vendor networks.
- Organizational Agility: Strong problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and the capacity to prioritize multiple urgent project deadlines simultaneously.
