Required Position

Grant appointment until September 21, 2027 This position is designated as one that requires a variable work schedule. However, it is understood that your work week will consist of 35 hours.

Vacancy Status: New position

Reporting to the Co-Directors of the Maamwizing Indigenous Research Institute (MIRI), the MIRI Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the operations of a thriving MIRI Centre and coordinating the planning, implementation and evaluation of MIRI programs and services aimed to advance Indigenous research excellence at Laurentian. Working closely with faculty members, graduate students and Indigenous communities in the region, the MIRI Coordinator will support expanding research partnerships, increasing knowledge mobilization activities and growing Indigenous research capacity.

Administrative and Resource Management

- Lead timely financial administration of MIRI budgets including: submitting financial requests, tracking expenditures and attending monthly financial reconciliation meetings.
- Assist leadership with grant research, proposal writing and fulfilling funding agency reporting requirements.
- Coordinate regular tracking, evaluation and reporting of MIRI activities.
- Collect, analyze and promote MIRI researchers’ program data (e.g. engagements, outputs, bibliographic metrics, activities and experiences).
- Oversee the daily operations of the Maamwizing research centre including holding regular office hours, acting as the first point of contact for drop-ins, room set-ups and organizing facilities maintenance requests. Order and restock kitchen supplies and office stationery as required.
- Manage MIRI records including new membership applications and space access requests.
- Manage MIRI communications including overseeing the website, email and listserv communications. Organize and develop a monthly newsletter to keep members and community informed.




- Proactively promote MIRI through information tables and other mechanisms.

Indigenous Program Administration

- Advance MIRI’s strategic directions through strategic operational planning and application of best practices in the area of Indigenous research.
- Support MIRI governance by coordinating monthly MIRI Executive Committee meetings including: scheduling hybrid meetings, ordering food, booking space and taking meeting minutes.
- Oversee the successful implementation of MIRI programming most notably coordinating the Maamwizing conference and other research programming that advances MIRI’s strategic objectives.
- Work in collaboration with MIRI members and graduate students, to promote and increase awareness of their research within and outside the university.

Indigenous Community Engagement & Outreach

- Maintain a robust understanding of Indigenous research literature, Indigenous research ethics and policies contexts (e.g. Tri-Council, OCAP, Indigenous data sovereignty).
- Promote and build trust-based relationships and new collaborations with local Indigenous community partners in the area of Indigenous research.
- Organize and develop culturally relevant community outreach strategies to build MIRI’s awareness and support new research partnerships.
- Assist MIRI members in establishing new research collaborations through community engagements.

Collaboration & Administrative Support

- Work with the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Office of Indigenous Student Affairs to facilitate and promote equitable access and support for Indigenous researchers at Laurentian.

Other Duties

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in Indigenous social work, Indigenous education, Indigenous studies or a related field; Master's/Graduate Degree (in progress or completed) is an asset.
- Three (3)



years of relevant work experience with Indigenous community.
- Indigenous identity with lived experience is an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous faculty members in an academic context.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities in the area of research partnerships.
- Knowledge of cultural ways of working with a diversity of Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Ability to work fluently, verbal and written, in both official languages, French and English is an asset.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
