Position Summary

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Are you a strategic communications leader—in tune with industry best practices—ready to make a lasting impact? When you work for Edmonton Public Schools you have the privilege of making a meaningful difference in the lives of students. We’re seeking a passionate and experienced communications leader to help shape communication strategy and mentor our dedicated, high-performing team of communications professionals.

As Director of Communications, you will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and serve as a trusted advisor to the CCO, Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and senior leadership. You will lead efforts in providing impactful internal and external communications support across the Division, navigating media relations and crisis management, and promoting our brand in a consistent and compelling way.

How you’ll make an impact:

- Guide strategy, planning and execution of internal and external communications initiatives
- In collaboration with the CCO, oversee brand strategy,



major communications, and change management initiatives to support division-wide goals
- Mentor and inspire a talented communications team, cultivate an environment of fun, excellence and collaboration
- Provide strategic advice and counsel to senior leaders in both proactive planning and in response to emergent issues and media relations.

Education/Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

- Undergraduate degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, or another related field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive communications experience, including demonstrated success leading teams and initiatives
- Experience in the education sector or public sector is an asset
- Exceptional skills in crisis communications, media and issues management
- Experience briefing and providing counsel to senior leaders
- Demonstrated success in leading, mentoring and supporting multi-disciplinary teams and managing large-scale communications and change initiatives
- Deep knowledge of current industry best practices in digital communications, media relations and brand management
- Robust political acumen, diplomacy and relationship building skills.

Rate of Pay:
$5,358.50 to $6,939.80 bi-weekly

Notes:
This is a full-time and permanent position.

This position is in-person and is not eligible for the hybrid work model.
