Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a Store Manager to join our team in Edmonton.
The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the tire and mechanic shop, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and exceptional customer service. This role leads and mentors a team of mechanics, tire specialists and service advisors, while managing inventory, Customer and Supplier relationships, and workflow processes. The Store Manager ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, optimizes operational procedures, and drives business growth through effective financial oversight and customer-focused strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Staff Management
- Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of mechanics, tire specialists, and service advisors.
- Promote a positive work environment that encourages accountability, professional development, and high-quality service delivery.
- Foster a collaborative environment between front desk and service staff to improve service quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate workflow to prioritize urgent repairs and maintain timely service delivery.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, training, and support as needed.
Customer Service & Front Desk Operations
- Greet customers promptly and professionally, assessing their automotive and tire service needs.
- Schedule service appointments, including tire replacements, rotations, alignments, and routine maintenance.
- Prepare work orders, service estimates, and communicate clearly with technicians and customers throughout the service process.
- Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries regarding services, pricing, and availability, and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Recommend appropriate maintenance, repair services, and products based on vehicle history, inspection results, and customer needs.
- Process transactions accurately, issue receipts,
and maintain detailed records.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally, striving to achieve high satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean, organized service desk, stock inventory, and merchandise products.
- Continuously update product knowledge and stay informed on industry trends.
Inventory, Receiving & Vendor Relations
- Implement effective inventory control measures for tires, automotive parts, and supplies to minimize discrepancies and ensure accurate stock levels.
- Enter received items into inventory management systems (e.g., Costar) accurately.
- Track and manage tire, parts, and repair supplies inventory; coordinate orders with suppliers and ensure timely restocking.
- Maintain detailed records of incoming and outgoing parts, tires, and supplies.
- Prepare and file necessary documentation for warranty claims, returns, national accounts or vendor discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers to ensure smooth supply chain operations and competitive pricing.
Operations & Process Optimization
- Oversee daily shop operations to ensure efficiency, profitability, and high-quality service.
- Continuously evaluate and improve shop and warehouse processes to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Standardize procedures for service bays, tire installations, shipping, and receiving to ensure consistent quality and timely turnaround.
- Manage shipping and receiving of parts, tires, and equipment to meet customer delivery requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the shop adheres to OSHA and other safety standards; monitor proper handling of tools, machinery, and hazardous materials.
- Conduct routine inspections to maintain a safe work environment.
- Oversee proper disposal of automotive fluids, used tires,
and hazardous materials according to local regulations.
Financial Oversight & Business Growth
- Track shop revenue, expenses, and inventory costs to maximize profitability.
- Assist with billing, invoicing, and cash handling procedures.
- Identify opportunities for upselling and promotional campaigns to grow the business.
- Handle escalated customer issues and ensure services meet quality and timeliness standards.
Working Conditions
- Environment: Primarily works at the front counter or customer service area of an automotive or tire service shop. May occasionally walk the service bays to communicate with technicians or inspect vehicles. The area is usually indoors but may involve exposure to vehicle noise, fumes, and varying temperatures from the garage/service floor.
- Hours: Full-time position with standard business hours though some shops may require evening, weekend, or occasional holiday shifts. Overtime may be needed during peak service periods.
- Physical Demands: Generally light to moderate physical activity, including standing for long periods, walking between the front counter and service bays, occasionally lifting or moving small parts or products, and handling paperwork or computer systems.
- Workload: Fast-paced environment with frequent customer interactions, phone calls, scheduling, and coordinating with technicians. Requires multitasking, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
- Safety Considerations: Must follow shop safety protocols when near vehicles, tools, and equipment. Front counter staff may need personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting the shop floor.
- Store Managers are expected to maintain a high level of teamwork, demonstrate accountability, and use sound judgment while meeting the established expectations within the organization.
