Class Assistant – Integrated Media/Experimental Animation Studios

Reporting to the Manager, Studio Services, with day-to-day supervision provided by the Technicians, Integrated Media/Experimental Animation Studios, the Class Assistant (CA) of INTM/EXAN Studios, provides direct support to INTM/EXAN Faculty and students, by ensuring the facilities support the operations of the department. The CA, INTM/EXAN Studio, maintains, monitors, prepares, and supplies materials for students and faculty, and identifies opportunities for improvement. In addition, the CA, INTM/EXAN Studios, may conduct technical demonstrations and provide one-on-one technical assistance with student projects. This position has a mentorship component; with guidance from INTM/EXAN Technicians and faculty, the INTM/EXAN CA will expand their understanding of and capacity in media production and the maintenance of studio equipment. Along with the studio staff team, it is the role of the CA, INTM/EXAN, to provide a safe and supportive studio environment for students to explore time-based media.

Summary of Responsibilities:

- Work under the supervision of the Technician and Manager, Studio Services
- Assist Faculty and Technicians with the preparation of equipment, for classes or open studios, including demonstrations, as required
- Support departmental staff and students by acting as a resource regarding materials and processes, and assisting with the technical resolution of projects
- Supervise the Sign Out, equipment check-out operations
- Assist in the cleaning, maintenance and functional operations of equipment and studio facilities
- Adhere to and enforce safety procedures as directed by Technician(s) and/or Studio Management
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:





- Graduate of a post-secondary art/design program of related experience, or equivalent
- Creative thinker with general troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of strong customer service
- Demonstrated attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively in a team workplace
- Experience working with both digital and analog image production tools and equipment, including, but not limited to: HD video, and 16/ Super 8 mm film, an asset
- Experience working with digital and analog audio production and post-production tools and equipment, an asset
- Knowledge of video, audio, animation and physical computing techniques related to art and design production, is an asset

Terms of Employment: Per the OPSEU Unit 2 Collective Agreement, Class Assistants are appointed for one (1) year, with consideration given for subsequent appointments up to a maximum of four (4) years.

Hours of Work: Weekly schedule is to be confirmed in consultation with the supervisor and may include some evening shifts.

Compensation: $23.59 per hour (plus 8% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act)
