Competitive Gymnastics Coach Job Description

Position Summary

The Competitive Gymnastics Coach is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality training to athletes in the club’s competitive program. This role supports athlete development through safe instruction, technical progression, competition preparation, and positive communication with athletes, families, and staff. The coach is expected to foster a respectful, disciplined, and athlete-centered training environment that aligns with club policies and governing body standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Support Competitive Program Director as required
- Plan, prepare, and lead training sessions for athletes in the competitive gymnastics program.
- Teach and reinforce proper technique, skill progressions, and safe training habits.
- Monitor athlete development and adjust coaching strategies based on individual needs, goals, and readiness.
- Prepare athletes for competitions, including routine development, performance readiness, and meet-day support.
- Ensure a safe, organized, and positive training setting at all times.
- Apply proper spotting techniques and follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and club policies.
- Communicate professionally with athletes, parents, and club leadership regarding progress, expectations, and program matters.
- Work collaboratively with other coaches, program directors, and support staff.
- Maintain accurate attendance, training notes, and other records as required by the club.
- Attend competitions, meetings, clinics, and professional development activities as required.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and respect within the program.

General Responsibilities

· Represent SAGC in a positive and skilled manner and contribute to a strong, engaged club culture.

· Help ensure that competitive athletes, coaches,



and members consistently follow SAGC and Alberta Gymnastics policies, procedures, and standards.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and professional coaches’ office environment.

· Model high ethical standards and reinforce the club’s vision through a positive, professional leadership style.

Qualifications

- Current gymnastics coaching certification of C1 Trained is recognized by the national and/or provincial governing body.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Completion of safe sport, athlete protection, or equivalent required training.
- Successful completion of a criminal record check and, where required, a vulnerable sector check.
- Previous coaching experience in a competitive gymnastics’ environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of technical skill development, athlete progression, and competition preparation.
- Knowledge of applicable rules, standards, and safety requirements for competitive gymnastics.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and competition schedules as required.

Working Conditions

This position typically requires evening and weekend availability, including attendance at competitions and special events. The role involves active coaching in a gym environment, including standing for extended periods, demonstrating movements, spotting athletes, and assisting with equipment setup or adjustments. The coach must be able to maintain focus in a fast-paced environment and consistently uphold safety standards.
