Description

We're seeking a compassionate and experienced overnight caregiver to support an 80-year-old woman who is recovering from her first round of treatment for AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). She will be discharged from the hospital after an 8-week stay and needs consistent, reliable care during the overnight hours as she transitions home.

About the Client: She is cognitively sound and alert, though medications may occasionally cause mild confusion. She values her independence but needs support with mobility, personal care, and safety supervision during the night. She can be particular about her care preferences, so patience and strong communication skills are essential. The family is very involved and lives nearby, providing daytime support.

Responsibilities:

- Provide awake overnight care from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM
- Assist with mobility and transfers using a walker
- Help with bathing and morning personal care routines
- Support with toileting and hygiene needs throughout the night
- Prepare light meals, reheat food, and provide reminders for eating
- Administer medication reminders as needed
- Provide supervision for safety, especially during nighttime waking
- Perform light tidying to maintain a clean environment
- Remain alert and responsive to her needs throughout the night

What We're Looking For:

- Significant experience with cancer care or medically complex clients
- Robust skills in mobility assistance and transfer techniques
- Expertise in personal care including bathing support
- Excellent English communication skills
- Calm, patient demeanor with ability to provide emotional comfort
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative when needed

Schedule: Initially 7 nights per week with potential to adjust based on client's recovery progress. Start date is expected within the next week following hospital discharge. This is a temporary arrangement that may evolve as care needs change, with possibility of reduced frequency after the initial recovery period. Flexibility and understanding of changing medical needs are important as the client may undergo additional treatment rounds.
