Role Description The Junior Family Lawyer will work on-site at the Scarborough, ON office in a full-time capacity, supporting the firm’s legal services and client matters. Day-to-day responsibilities may include conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing documents such as contracts, pleadings, and correspondence, and assisting in case preparation. The role involves attending client meetings under supervision, helping to organize case files, and coordinating with courts, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders as needed. The Junior Lawyer will support senior lawyers with legal analysis, preparing summaries and memos, and ensuring that deadlines and filing requirements are met.
This position is suited for an individual seeking to build foundational experience in law while contributing to a client-focused practice.
Qualifications
- Licensed to practice law in Ontario (or eligibility for licensing), with a law degree from an accredited institution.
- Strong legal research and writing abilities, including proficiency with legal databases and clear, concise drafting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and case law.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, including effective file management and time management.
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact respectfully with clients and colleagues.
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality and ethical legal practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an office environment, take direction from senior lawyers, and manage competing priorities.
- Prior experience in a law office, internship, or articling placement is an asset, especially in litigation, family, or general practice.
- Comfort with common office software and legal practice tools; willingness to learn new systems and procedures.
