Position FunctionReporting to the Clinic Director, the Lactation Consultant provides evidence‑based breastfeeding education, counseling, and support services for mothers, babies, and families. The role includes guiding healthcare providers and families, promoting breastfeeding practices, and working within an interdisciplinary team.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain and handle confidential information appropriately.Commit to reconciliation responsibilities per TRC and BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.Conduct assessments and identify solutions for basic and complex breastfeeding problems.Provide individual and group lactation support, including education, in‑clinic visits, and follow‑up phone and email support.Educate healthcare providers and families on breastfeeding practices.Refer clients to appropriate community resources.Develop and teach breastfeeding classes and workshops.Develop and maintain breastfeeding practices.Offer a culturally safe, trauma‑informed perspective in collaboration with the health care team.Use evidence‑based resources and update knowledge, procedures, and certification.Participate in continuous quality improvement, program evaluation, education sessions, team conferences, meetings, and committees.Must be able to commute to the Edmonds Clinic location.QualificationsInternational Board‑Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) is required.BC Lactation Consultant Association membership is an asset.Minimum of two years of recent related experience working with families across a range of breastfeeding ages, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Experience with populations experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, trauma histories,



or structural barriers to health.Knowledge of community and public health resources.Adherence to trauma and violence‑informed practice, cultural sensitivity, and humility.Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills.English communication skills; other languages are an asset.Ability to recognize patient and community needs and develop appropriate resources.Interpersonal skills and tolerate stress.Capacity to work independently and within a team.Physical ability to perform duties, including sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 10 kg.Tactful, discreet, diplomatic, patient, and flexible.Knowledge and experience using MS Office, standard office equipment, and EMR software.Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.HoursPart‑time, 3 days per week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 7.5 hrs/day) until January 31, 2028.Compensation$40.20 – $45.81 per hour.BenefitsEligible for extended health, dental, life insurance, dependents life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, and long‑term disability benefits for employees working at least 17.5 hrs per week with a contract of at least one year.
