The property is host to the former Kemess South (KS) Mine, the Kemess Underground (KUG) deposit, and the Kemess East (KE) deposit.Existing on-site infrastructure includes offices, warehouse, laydowns, maintenance facilities, a 300-person accommodation camp footprint, crushed ore stockpile and reclaim, access and service roads, an airstrip, explosives magazines, and an electrical substation.Kemess Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.About the OpportunityWe have an opportunity for a fixed-termTechnician, Environmental (Summer Student)to join ourKemess Mineoperations site.This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of14 days on / 14 days off, with a 12-hour daily schedule.Reporting to the Coordinator, Environmental, the Technician, Environmental Summer Student will be responsible for implementing the site environmental monitoring programs in collaboration with other team members. This role is intended for summer term candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in environment and mining. Transportation to the site is via charter flight from Prince George and Smithers.



Accommodations and meals are provided by the mine for days onsite.Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Conduct flow measurements in streams and weirsInstall, maintain, and retrieve data from a network of hydrometric stationsComplete water level and benchmark surveys using an automatic level and survey rodMaintain a database of hydrometric data, update rating curves, and apply corrections as requiredCollect surface water samples from various sites which are accessed by hiking, driving, boating, or helicopterEnsure water and air samples are handled correctly when in the field, packaged for shipping appropriately, and shipped to achieve prescribed hold times and temperaturesEnsure field data (e.G., field sheets and notes) are recorded, scanned, and filed in the appropriate place and in a timely mannerComplete reconnaissance sampling of potential water quality risks (e.G., seepage, ML/ARD) and any other monitoring tasks outlined in permits or site monitoring plansMaintain and calibrate field instruments as set out per site SOPs and manufacturer recommendationsObserve wildlife on-site and assist with wildlife monitoring programsMaintain cleanliness of setting department vehicles and facilitiesRespond to and document any spills, along with keeping the site spill/incident log up to dateImplement erosion and sediment control best practices and progressive reclamation activitiesOperate pick-up trucks, ATVs, and small engine equipment in a safe mannerMonitor and maintain water retaining and drainage structures to ensure capacity for runoffProvide field support for other environmental monitoring programs and consultants as requiredSupport in the planning and execution of various environmental initiativesAbout YouTo qualify, you must be a post-secondary student studying in a related field (environmental science, technology, engineering, or biology).
