Foreperson
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Foreperson is responsible to oversee and manages the daily operations of landscaping projects. This position is required to lead and supervise a team of workers, ensuring that tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to the specified quality standards. This role is also responsible for coordinating resources, ensuring safety protocols are followed, managing equipment, and providing guidance to workers. Additionally, the foreman may be responsible for communicating with clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution and resolves any issues that arise during construction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Including, but not limited to:
1) Leadership
- Manage all aspects of projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and sourcing contractors.
- Supervise, delegate, coordinate, and execute day-to-day work activities of crew members consisting of approximately 2–5 people; at times may work independently.
- Communicate project details to clients and team members throughout the planning and implementation process.
- Ensure the safety, quality, and productivity of work at job sites and/or the shop/yard.
- Work safely and responsibly while ensuring team members follow all safety rules, regulations, and company policies.
- Demonstrate continuous growth through personal goal achievement.
- Actively participate in regular team meetings.
- Comply with all company policies, regulations, and local health and safety requirements.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
at all times and monitor crew members to ensure compliance with PPE guidelines outlined in company policies.
- Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner.
- Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas.
- Complete and submit required paperwork or electronic records as required, including but not limited to daily site meetings, timekeeping, planning reports, and employee reviews.
2) Production
- Interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications.
- Lay out work areas to required elevations, grades, and drainage requirements.
- Perform site calculations and material quantity take-offs.
- Track and monitor hours for submission to assist with job costing.
- Operate and train crew members on required tools including, but not limited to, tampers, quick-cut saws, laser levels, measuring equipment, shovels, hammers, and drills.
- Operate and train crew members on heavy equipment including, but not limited to, skid steers and excavators.
- Operate crew trucks and trailers as needed.
- Perform or delegate preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis.
- Manage budgets and timelines to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Manage teams of designers,
architects, engineers, construction workers/sub-trades, and others involved in the construction process.
- Perform daily tasks alongside crew members including, but not limited to, land clearing, loading/unloading materials, moving materials using shovels and wheelbarrows, and installing stone, interlock, flagstone, sod, plants, or other landscaping materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the landscape construction field or experience.
- Knowledge and experience installing a variety of hardscape applications or experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated, reliable, and maintains a positive attitude.
- Must hold a valid Class G driver’s licence with a clean driving abstract.
- Reliable transportation to and from the shop location.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, heavy equipment, and materials on an ongoing basis throughout the day.
- Lifting and moving materials (50 lbs or more) repeatedly throughout the work shift.
- Fast-paced work setting.
- Continuous movement throughout the day including walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, and lifting.
- Working outdoors in various conditions including heat, humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold.
- Exposure to natural elements, moderate to heavy noise, electrical energy, moving machinery, and equipment.
- Occasional office work including sitting at a desk and working on computer screens.
Flexible working hours including occasional weekend work or overtime to meet deadlines
