Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Location: Head Office, Kitchener, Ontario
Reports To: Co-Owners
Vacancy Status: This is a newly created position.
Role Description The People & Talent Manager is based in our Kitchener head office and will work regularly across Harmony's five stores in Southwestern Ontario. You'll be the first point of contact for our Store Managers and team on everything people-related, from hiring, interviewing and onboarding to performance, employee relations and the day-to-day situations that arise in a retail environment. Daily responsibilities include managing HR policies and procedures, maintaining employee records, running performance management and coordinating training and development. The People and Talent Manager will also handle employee relations, HR administration, and compliance with employment standards.
What We Offer –
- Compensation. A salary of $65,000 to $80,000 per year, based on experience.
- Company Vehicle. A company vehicle for store visits.
- Benefits & WFH Flexibility. Extended health perks, dental & vision coverage, paid time off, and one work-from-home day per week after your first three months.
- Perks. An employee discount, a piece of Harmony jewelry of your own, and company retreats.
- Education & Development. Support for your professional development, including toward a CHRP or CHRL designation.
- Scope. This is the senior people role at Harmony, reporting directly to our owners, with real ownership of how we hire, train and grow our team.
What you'll be doing as a People & Talent Manager at Harmony –
- Employee Relations. Be the first call a Store Manager makes when a people situation arises, whether it's a conflict between staff,
a performance concern, or a conversation that needs to happen but hasn't.
- Talent Management. Lead recruitment across our five stores and head office. Source, screen, conduct final interviews, and hire for leadership positions. Partner with our Store Managers to establish a consistent hiring standard and coach them through building their own teams.
- Training & Development. Own onboarding and training across the company. Design and deliver our onboarding programme, develop our training strategy alongside the owners, and maintain the internal wikis our staff and managers use every day so our processes stay clear and current.
- Performance & Store Standards. Oversee the evaluation and check-in cycle for every store, from probationary reviews through to annual evaluations. Conduct manager-level evaluations, participate in all performance situations, and visit each store on a regular cycle to complete our store check-ins covering customer experience, product knowledge and store operations.
- Retention & Succession. Understand what keeps people at Harmony and build on it. Track tenure and turnover, lead our retention initiatives, and develop internal talent so every store has team members ready for their next role.
- People Operations. Partner with Store Managers so staffing, scheduling and time-off processes are consistent company-wide. Maintain employee contracts and personnel records, work with our bookkeeper so payroll is accurate and on time, and run onboarding and offboarding end to end.
We'd love to hear from you if –
- You have 3+ years of progressive HR or people-operations experience, ideally in a multi-location retail, hospitality, service, or other customer-facing environment.
- You're the person managers and staff naturally turn to when a situation needs handling; you stay composed, and you have the managerial courage to lead the tough conversations yourself rather than escalate them.
- You have demonstrated experience recruiting, staffing and hiring across all positions, including leadership, ideally supporting a part-time or hourly team in retail, hospitality or a similar customer-focused environment.
- You have a proven ability to create high-performing teams and can easily identify talent and develop people throughout their career journey.
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and you write clearly enough that the processes you document are genuinely used.
- You have a valid Ontario driver’s licence, a safe driving record, and are comfortable working across multiple store locations. Post-secondary education or formal training in Human Resources is a valuable asset.
You might not meet every requirement listed, and that's okay. If you bring relevant experience and a passion for what we do, we encourage you to apply. We believe great talent comes from all kinds of paths.
Location, Schedule and Travel. Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, based at our Kitchener head office with regular travel to our five stores. We include Saturdays because that's when much of our team is in store and when training happens. You'll have Sundays and Mondays off each week, and one work-from-home day per week after your first three months.
Join us, and be part of something personal.
The compensation ranges between CAD $65,000.00 and CAD $80,000.00 per year. In addition, this position includes a company vehicle, extended health benefits, paid time off, and support for professional development. The final pay offered will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the actual qualifications and experience of the individual.
