Marine Manager, Operations
Location: Nakusp, BC
We are currently partnering with a private marine transportation operator in British Columbia to identify a Marine Manager, Operations to lead freshwater passenger ferry operations across multiple vessels and sites in the Arrow Lakes region.
This is a hands-on operational leadership opportunity for an experienced marine professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about leading crews, maintaining safe operations, and ensuring operational continuity in a unionized setting.
About the Opportunity
Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Marine Manager, Operations will oversee day-to-day vessel operations, crew leadership, safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and operational performance across the fleet.
This role requires a highly visible leader who can build credibility with crews, navigate complex operational challenges, and foster a solid culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support marine crews operating freshwater passenger ferry services
• Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant vessel operations
• Maintain a strong onboard presence and provide leadership directly with crews
• Support emergency preparedness, safety drills, and crew competency development
• Monitor compliance with Transport Canada regulations and company procedures
• Participate in vessel inspections and operational oversight activities
• Coordinate labour scheduling and manpower planning
• Partner with maintenance and safety teams to support fleet reliability
• Conduct operational reporting,
risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Navigate labour relations matters and support a positive unionized work environment
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 5+ years of operational leadership experience within marine or vessel operations
• Previous experience leading teams within a unionized setting
• Strong marine operational knowledge, ideally within passenger ferry or roll-on/roll-off operations
• Exposure to Transport Canada regulations, vessel inspections, and marine safety standards
• Experience handling operational incidents, staffing challenges, and fast-changing priorities
• Strong communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and operational reporting tools
Required Certifications
Candidates must hold one of the following:
• 500 Ton Chief Mate Ticket OR
• 500 Ton Domestic Voyage Captain Ticket
