The Early Childhood Educator Plus, under the direction of the Supervisor, Early Child Care Program, works with all Child Care Centre staff to plan, develop and lead children in activities to stimulate cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth, and to ensure their security and well-being. The role provides a high quality, caring and supportive child care program that addresses the community’s needs and meets regulatory standards. This position represents children and families through advocacy, information, and referral in a trauma-informed, non-judgmental, and women-centered manner.Employment type:Temporary, Casual contract. Salary range is $25.01-27.33 per hour with a $6 ECE wage enhancement. The successful candidate will work full-time for the first 1-2 months and transition to casual thereafter.ResponsibilitiesMain Duties & Responsibilities (90%)Work with the Supervisor, ECC Program, to plan and assess, then implement developmentally appropriate activities and experiences that promote each child’s well-being and reflect diverse needs and interests, following the British Columbia Early Learning Framework and the Early Years Service Framework.Establish and carry out a daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activity, care routines and transition times.Organize space, equipment and materials before activities and adapt to the environment as required.Assist children in expressing themselves by actively listening and responding with curiosity and open-ended questions.Utilize a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.Plan and carry out experiences that foster understanding of diverse cultures and value systems.Observe children for daily health and ongoing observations for signs of potential learning or behavioural concerns; prepare written documentation for Manager/Supervisor, staff, parents and/or outside agencies.Create a positive social workplace that promotes sharing, cooperation, problem solving, respect for others and self-help skills daily.Provide experiences and play materials that promote a positive approach to new experiences,



interactions and attitudes.Follow Active Play regulations provided by the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP).Honor Indigenous teachings and culture across the curriculum and in interactions with staff, children, families, and community members by promoting Indigenous language, concepts and pedagogies.Individualize the curriculum and ensure activities are accessible by observing children to determine when to expand play, review plans, plan for extra staff support, and refer families for additional services.Ensure guidance of children’s behaviour that encourages positive self-concept by setting reasonable expectations aligned with CCC’s procedures and policies, providing positive guidance and immediate response to challenging behaviours.Ensure the child care environment is healthy and safe by complying with licensing requirements, government legislation, and CCC policies, especially regarding medication and first aid.Maintain positive communication with parents/guardians by developing relationships, providing support, and referrals to outside agencies.Contribute to centre operations and ensure licensing requirements are followed in accordance with applicable acts, regulations, and CCC policies; carry out duties of theEarly Child Care Program Supervisor as needed.Leadership and SupervisionAct as lead staff when working with Early Childhood Assistants (ECA), non-ECA staff, and on-call staff.Direct on-call staff, volunteers, interns and practicum students.Ensure constant supervision, safety, and well-being in a classroom of students, volunteers, interns and practicum students.GeneralAdhere to UGM policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.Attend and actively participate in regular staff meetings and events as required.Represent UGM well with donor relations activities, including tours of the CCC.Participate in UGM seasonal events.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications (KSA)Mature individual aligned with UGM’s Mission,



Core Values and Statement of Faith; active relationship with Christ.Completion of Early Childhood Educator Diploma (equivalent to ECE Basic Level Certificate & ECE Post Basic certifications) or a BA in Early Childhood Care/Education or Early Childhood Studies is preferred.Willingness to obtain Post Basic Certificates (Special Needs, Infant/Toddler Specialization).Alternative combinations of experience and education may be considered.Current BC ECE Certificate required.Current Standard First Aid CPR C and Emergency Child Care CPR.Minimum 2 years of related work experience, ideally in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse community; experience with Indigenous community members is an asset.Knowledge of community care licensing requirements and the BC Early Learning Framework/Early Years Service Framework.Commitment to ECEBC Code of Ethics; ability to support families in crisis and refer to community resources.Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).Ability to maintain confidentiality.Valid Class 5 driver’s license; Class 4 is an asset.Complete UGM Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course.Licenses/CertificationsValid BC Early Childhood Educator Registry certificate.Membership with ECEBC or willingness to become a member.Working ConditionsWork Location: Combination of indoor and outdoor environments.Physical Requirements: Ability to participate with children in indoor and outdoor environments; ability to set upprogram equipment; frequent movementincluding sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling; ability to lift/move upto 35 lbs.Work Conditions: Generally favorable environment; occasional exposure to dust, odors, fumes, and noises; possible exposureto extreme temperatures; works in environments involving clients in crisis; ability to function under pressure and manage concurrent tasks, including emergencies; exposure to high noise,bodily fluids, and infectious diseases.Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 6:30pm; occasional weekend/evening work; moderate overtimemay be required.Hazards: Minor and controllable; frequent interaction with upset or abusive individuals; potential exposure to emotionally challenging information.Other: Candidate must complete a criminal record check and provide a current Driver’s Abstract.#J-18808-Ljbffr
