Advance your career in nuclear engineering with a fully funded PhD focused on HALEU criticality modelling. This engaging research project offers opportunities for hands-on experience and collaboration with leading industry experts.
This 3.5-year PhD studentship, starting in October 2026, is aimed at enhancing the safety assessment of High-Assay Low Enriched Uranium (HALEU) processing. Candidates eligible for Home rate tuition will receive a tax-free stipend of £21,805, with potential annual increases. You'll develop advanced criticality models using computational methods to improve future nuclear fuel cycle facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Model criticality behaviour in HALEU deconversion processes • Assess neutron multiplication under various conditions • Collaborate with UK National Nuclear Laboratory experts • Conduct research visits to labs and industrial sites • Develop transferable skills in nuclear technologies
Requirements: • At least a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent • Background in nuclear engineering or related discipline • Interest in computational modelling (experience not essential) • Commitment to advancing nuclear safety • Passion for research in nuclear innovation
