Position SummaryThe Senior Preconstruction Manager leads the planning, estimating, and preconstruction execution for complex and high‑value construction projects. This role is responsible for setting preconstruction strategy, managing pursuit teams, developing reliable cost and schedule models, and partnering with clients to shape projects from concept through final pricing. The Senior Preconstruction Manager provides technical leadership, mentors preconstruction staff, and ensures that projects transition seamlessly from preconstruction into operations.Organization OverviewBarton Malow Canada is an Industrial Contractor with clients across Canada and is part of the Barton Malow family of companies. Our core purpose is Building People, Projects, and Communities; our core values are Integrity, Partnership, and Empowerment.Benefits & CompensationBase salary is $160,000 - $190,000, dependent on candidate job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.Opportunities for skill development and advancement within the company.Immediate enrollment in the Company paid benefit package.Immediate enrollment in the Company Group RRSP program.Immediate eligibility to the Company vehicle allowance package.Eligibility to participate in the annual Short Term Incentive Compensation Program (ICP), with a target bonus opportunity up to 13% of base salary.Duties & ResponsibilitiesPreconstruction Leadership & StrategyLead preconstruction efforts for large, complex, or high‑risk projects across multiple delivery methods (CMAR, Design‑Build, GMP, Lump Sum, EPC, etc.)Establish preconstruction execution plans, staffing strategies, and pursuit schedulesServe as a senior technical and strategic advisor to clients during early project developmentDrive alignment between business development, estimating,



design partners, and operationsOversee development of conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP estimatesValidate quantity takeoffs, pricing strategies, allowances, contingencies, and escalationLead value engineering and cost optimization efforts while maintaining project intentEnsure estimates reflect constructability, logistics, market conditions, and risk exposureReview and approve final pricing prior to client submission or contract executionSchedule & Logistics PlanningOversee development of conceptual and detailed preconstruction schedulesCoordinate constructability reviews, phasing plans, and site logisticsValidate schedule assumptions and milestone feasibilityLead risk identification and mitigation planning during preconstructionSupport use of tools such as PDRI, risk registers, and contingency modelsEnsure preconstruction deliverables support informed owner decisionsParticipate in internal and external go/no‑go and gate reviewsClient & Stakeholder ManagementAct as the primary preconstruction point of contact for owners and consultantsLead client meetings, cost reviews, and executive presentationsSupport proposal development and interview presentationsBuild long‑term client relationships through transparency and technical credibilityManage and mentor Estimators and Proposal CoordinatorsProvide coaching, performance feedback, and technical guidanceSupport standardization and continuous improvement of preconstruction processesContribute to talent development and succession planningTransition to OperationsEnsure a smooth handoff from preconstruction to project execution teamsParticipate in turnover meetings and support early project mobilizationMaintain involvement through early construction as needed to support cost and scope clarityRequirements & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field10+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or project managementProven experience leading large,



complex construction projectsStrong understanding of construction means, methods, and market conditionsDemonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple pursuits simultaneouslyExperience with industrial, automotive, data center, energy/renewables, etc.Experience with alternative delivery methods (CMAR, Design‑Build, EPC)Experience managing and leading multi-disciplinary teamsAdvanced proficiency in estimating and scheduling softwareAbility to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environmentHigh attention to detail and commitment to qualityStrong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, and diplomaticallyExperience in construction, engineering, or architecture firmsProficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and ExcelUnderstands development, design, and construction terminology, delivery methods, contract types, insurance, legal issues, financing strategies, and risk analysis.Strong business acumen is essential, including an awareness of industry practices and current developments such as construction processes, delivery models, and contract types.Proven ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with clients by providing tailored solutions and proactive supportEqual OpportunityBarton Malow Canada is an equal opportunity employer, fostering diversity, inclusion and belonging within our organization.
