Reporting to the HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) Manager, you will be responsible for promoting occupational health and safety in order to create a healthy and safe work environment for all employees, suppliers, customers, and visitors. The incumbent will support internal teams in implementing preventive measures necessary for the effective operation of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems. They will also ensure that all applicable laws, regulations, and standards are understood and followed during activities at the Bromont Distribution Center.
The successful candidate will provide HSE expertise and leadership to continuously improve site performance and employee engagement. You must act as a change agent in fostering a culture of “Zero Accidents by Choice.”
This position contributes to ABB Canada’s ELIP division and is based in Bromont.
The work model is 100% on-site .
Responsibilities
Lead the implementation and promotion of the health and safety culture.
Act as a support resource and coach for employees and managers regarding occupational health, safety, and environmental management.
Encourage a proactive attitude toward HSE.
Promote and coordinate prevention activities (corporate programs, risk assessments).
Participate in accident and incident investigations, prepare reports,
ensure appropriate follow-up, identify root causes, and verify that suitable corrective and preventive measures are implemented.
Develop and identify relevant training activities and needs, and design or deliver various training programs.
Take a proactive role in deploying and implementing internal HSE programs.
Participate in the implementation and monitoring of the Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System (ABB Way).
Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, government agencies, and insurance partners), including serving as an internal auditor.
Maintain documentation related to the management system in collaboration with program owners.
Facilitate and coordinate HSE meetings and activities.
Promote teamwork within the HSE team.
Participate in and collaborate on the development and implementation of corporate policies and standards with the corporate team.
Analyze workplace risks such as air quality, noise levels, lighting, thermal stress, and other occupational hazards.
Prepare and report statistical data in the appropriate databases.
Qualifications and Skills
College diploma in environmental studies, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, a certificate in occupational health and safety, or another relevant discipline.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant occupational health and safety experience in a distribution and/or industrial environment.
Ability to act as a change agent through informal influence.
Proactive approach.
Experience working with HSE management systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.
Strong focus on workplace behavioral safety systems.
Knowledge of manufacturing risks, including machine safety, lockout/tagout, working at heights, ergonomics, etc.
Solid strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Self-motivated, able to manage priorities, results-oriented, and capable of analytical synthesis.
Leadership skills.
Team-oriented with a positive and collaborative attitude.
Strong customer service orientation.
Excellent French and intermediate English proficiency.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
