Role Description The Skilled Laborer/Fire Watch role is a temporary, on-site position based in Gogama, ON. In this role, the individual will perform general labor duties such as moving materials, assisting tradespeople, cleaning work areas, and supporting construction or maintenance activities as directed by supervisors. As Fire Watch, the individual will continuously monitor designated areas during hot work or high-risk tasks, ensure fire safety equipment is available and functional, and report any hazards or incidents immediately. Daily responsibilities include following safety procedures,
wearing required personal protective equipment, participating in safety meetings, and completing basic documentation related to work tasks and safety checks. The role requires working in industrial or mining environments, sometimes in varying weather conditions or confined spaces, while maintaining high safety and performance standards.
Qualifications
Physically capable of performing demanding work, including lifting, carrying, standing for extended periods, and working in an industrial or mining workplace.
Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, including fire prevention, hazard recognition, and compliance with all health and safety policies.
Previous experience in construction, mining, industrial operations, or a similar heavy-industry environment is considered an asset.
Able to follow instructions, work effectively as part of a team, and communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
Safety certifications such as WHMIS, Health and Safety Awareness, Working at Heights, or Confined Space training are considered assets.
Comfortable working and staying in a remote camp environment.
Must be clean-shaven within the respirator’s sealing area to ensure a proper fit.
Must be able to wear a full-face respirator. Standard eyeglasses cannot be worn inside the respirator facepiece.
