Provide essential interpreting services as a Temporary Sign Language Interpreter at Bear Creek Elementary, supporting deaf and hard of hearing students. This role ends on January 31, 2028.
In this role, you will be part of a agile educational team, ensuring students communicate effectively in various settings, including classrooms and assemblies. Your fluency in American Sign Language and an understanding of Deaf culture will facilitate learning and social interaction. Collaboration with teachers and I.E.P. support teams is key.
Key Responsibilities:
• Facilitate interpreting for classroom instruction and activities
• Prepare by reviewing upcoming lesson materials
• Work with I.E.P. team to support student needs
• Ensure the operation of hearing assistive devices
• Assist in student language development and skills training
Requirements:
• Two-year diploma in Sign Language Interpretation
• One year of relevant interpreting experience
• Strong ASL fluency required
• Membership in Westcoast Association of Visual Language Interpreters
• Clearance through a Criminal Records Search required
