South Vancouver Neighbourhood House is looking for an Adult Day Centre Activity Leader for our South Vancouver Adult Day Centre. Our Adult Day Centre provides specialized services for frail seniors and older adults with cognitive challenges who live independently or with caregivers in the community. Utilizing a person-centred approach, we are committed to enriching the lives of our participants. The Adult Day Centre Activity Leader will be motivated to help research, design, develop and implement a variety of therapeutic social and recreational programs that meet the complex health care of a diverse seniors' population. The Activity Leader works in a supportive team environment in client centered program development, delivery and evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of stimulating activities tailored to the interests and needs of participants, including those with dementia or other cognitive challenges
Lead group activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, light exercise, games, and social outings to promote engagement and socialization
Monitor participant safety during activities, ensuring a secure environment at all times
Foster positive relationships with participants, families, and team members through transparent communication and empathetic support
Work with program nurse to inform participant care plans, utilize care plans to implement meaningful programing
Assist participants in the washroom as needed
Actively participate in daily/monthly staff meetings and assist with monthly newsletter and calendar
Provide leadership and support to program volunteers
Stay informed about best practices in senior care,
assisted living, nursing home environments, and dementia care to continually enhance activity offerings
Other duties as required

Qualifications:
Diploma/Certificate or related knowledge of therapeutic recreation or related field (Gerontology, Social Services, etc.)
Previous training or experience in program development, implementation and activation for ageing adults at different stages of cognition and physical ability.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and to observe and recognize changes
Knowledge/experience in various recreational activities geared towards an older adult population (arts, crafts, active games, etc)
Enthusiasm and interest to develop, deliver and evaluate individual and group activities
Ability to adapt pace based on needs of participants and function in a dynamic fast paced environment
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Knowledge of health challenges older adults experience
Ability to speak additional language an asset
Class 4 BC drivers license an asset
Emergency 1 aid an asset
Compensation: $28.79 hourly + excellent benefits package
Terms of Employment: Regular full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am-4pm
