emergiTEL is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our Design team in Ottawa.

Reporting to the Manager, Design, the successful candidate will develop complex engineering design concepts and prepare or direct the preparation of final design layouts and manufacturing documentation. This role is ideal for a technically strong designer with solid CAD experience and a strong understanding of mechanical design and drafting principles.

Apply engineering design principles to achieve project objectives under the direction of the Lead Engineer.

Develop engineering data for preliminary design concepts.

Prepare or direct final design layouts and manufacturing documentation.

Ensure designs are dimensionally accurate and correctly depicted.

Coordinate design checking and required approvals.

Ensure compliance with drafting standards, corporate policies, and procedures.

Identify opportunities to improve drafting methods, design processes, and drawing quality.

Assist with training new and existing design staff.

Prepare design/drafting estimates and support project planning.

Monitor project drafting hours and progress against project objectives.

Coordinate with purchasing, production, and other departments to ensure designs support manufacturing, shipping, installation, and maintenance requirements.

Assist with prototyping and assembly activities when required.

Identify and recommend corrective actions for design issues.





Assist with project coordination and provide technical direction to other designers/draftspersons.

Qualifications

3-year Technologist Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or another appropriate technology.

6–8 years of directly related design/drafting experience.

Strong experience with computer-aided design and drafting systems.

Experience with SolidWorks or another 3D CAD system and/or AutoCAD or another 2D CAD system .

Ability to interpret engineering instructions and technical documentation.

Strong understanding of engineering design principles and drafting techniques.

Ability to independently analyze and resolve complex design problems.

Robust technical judgment and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to provide technical direction and occasional project coordination.

May require work in an active area.

Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker .
