Course Title : PHY245H5F - Vibrations and Waves
Course Description : The analysis of vibrating systems and wave motion, introducing mathematical techniques such as complex numbers, eigenvalue problems, and Fourier series. Topics include: straightforward and coupled oscillators; dispersion relations and boundary conditions; travelling waves; propagation of electromagnetic waves in materials; reflection and transmission of waves at interfaces.
Number of Positions (est) : 1 position. * Positions are dependent on actual course enrolment, and are not guaranteed.
Hours of work (est) : 67 hours
Class schedule :In-person delivery - tutorial and lab in alternate weeks. Tutorial: Friday 11am - 1pm & Lab: Friday 11am - 2pm
Sessional dates of appointment : September 2026 – December 2026
Qualifications :B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physics. Sound knowledge in contents covered in the course required. Good communication skills are required as well. Previous TA experience marking assignments, quizzes, tests and/or final exam and working with undergraduate students in Physics laboratory and tutorial setting an asset.
Description of Duties : Duties will include laboratory demonstrations, leading tutorials,
marking laboratory reports, and/or quizzes/assignments. May also include invigilation of term tests and/or final exam.
