About the Department of Facilities Management
Mount Royal University's Facilities Management department is responsible for the planning, development, construction, design, operation, maintenance, safety, and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites, and services within Mount Royal's campus community. Through efficient and environmentally sustainable operation, we offer Grounds, Custodial, Building Operations, Facilities Planning, and Engineering professional services to provide a physical environment that supports and enhances our academic space for students and staff. Facilities Management is also responsible for the official space inventory, which includes capacity, categories, types, and current assignment of spaces. As part of keeping an updated inventory, space audits are done annually.
About The Role
Reporting to the Manager, Planning & Project Delivery, the Junior Facility Planner provides in-house architectural AutoCAD design, space planning, and project coordination support within the Facilities Management department. The purpose of this role is to design and develop drawings, furniture layouts, and specifications for campus renovation and alteration projects, while maintaining university drawing archives, space inventories, and technical libraries to ensure a functional, safe, and accessible physical environment for students and staff.
This position is a full-time limited term position working 35 hours per week and ending January 21, 2028.
Responsibilities
Adhere to design process, including specifications, colour and material selection, and so on
Provide clients with coordinated cost estimates and budgets as well as a project schedule
Develop conceptual layout and design based on client program
Maintain as-built drawings, manuals, and technical library, ensuring technical information is kept up-to-date.
Undertake space planning exercises.
Design and develop preliminary detailed architectural drawings.
Suggest and design modifications that would provide greater safety and accessibility
Confer with clients to determine factors affecting planning around the interior environment, such as budget, architectural standards, practice, purpose, and function
Provide architectural and furniture layouts
Determine any necessary consequential moves resulting from proposed renovations.
Coordinate deliveries for assigned projects as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or equivalent
6 - 12 months related experience
Familiarity with Frontline (Archibus IWMS), Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, and lnDesign
Experience using Microsoft Office suite of products
Functional working knowledge of AutoCAD (v.2024), Sketchup and rendering software.
