Position Description
The McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) based at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable Contract Academic Staff appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), one of the world's foremost academic health centers, is the flagship teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal.
Situated in the heart of downtown Montreal, one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse cities in North America, McGill University campus is located at the edge of splendid Mount Royal. McGill's Medical/Doctoral program is consistently rated the top in Canada and comes within the top 50 universities in the World.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will join the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIS), which offers advanced surgical techniques. Minimally invasive techniques using laparoscopy and hysteroscopy provide many benefits to the patient including smaller incisions, less pain, faster recovery, less risk of infection and shorter hospital stay. It is a rapid-growing field used to treat fibroids, abnormal periods, endometriosis, ovarian tumors, pelvic prolapse, and female cancers. Using the minimally invasive technique, gynecologists can perform hysterectomies,
myomectomies, and other gynecologic procedures. The need for large abdominal incisions is virtually eliminated. One of the unique features of our program is the use of laparoscopy to preserve fertility in women undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
The department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in fertility-sparing surgeries and prior training in robotic surgery to enhance the expertise in complex gynaecological surgical care offered at the MUHC. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated a continued interest in clinical research. Furthermore, aptitudes to assist the department in its growth, such as quality improvement, are beneficial.
The successful candidate will also participate in the clinical activities of the obstetrical division, including call duties and obstetrical clinics. The successful candidate is expected to perform clinical duties and attend departmental and division meetings. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill's academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
