Position Title: Junior Cook / Prep Cook Reports To: Senior Cook Location: 1364 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB Compensation: Based on experience and internal pay structure; confirmed in the Letter of Offer

Position Summary
The Junior Cook / Prep Cook supports daily kitchen production by preparing ingredients, assisting with line execution, and maintaining cleanliness and organization. This role contributes to consistent food quality, proper sanitation practices, and productive kitchen operations while developing culinary skills within Shelly's Indigenous Bistro.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare vegetables, proteins, sauces, and other ingredients
Assist with line cooking and food assembly as directed
Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines
Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and FIFO rotation
Restock ingredients and prep supplies at assigned stations
Assist with inventory counts and stock organization as assigned
Support catering preparation and packaging
Maintain clean and organized prep and service stations
Complete assigned cleaning tasks and sanitation checklists
Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance concerns
Maintain compliance with Manitoba food safety regulations
Promote safe, respectful, and efficient kitchen operations
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications & Experience
Previous kitchen or food service experience is an asset
Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen safety
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
Willingness to learn and take direction
Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
Training & Certification Requirements




Manitoba Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it, is considered an asset
WHMIS Certification is considered an asset but is not required
Knowledge of Manitoba food safety regulations is an asset
Ongoing food safety and operational training may be required

Employment Requirements & Working Conditions
This position may be full-time or part-time based on operational needs. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and peak seasonal periods.
A three-month probationary period applies. Performance, reliability, food quality standards, sanitation practices, and teamwork will be reviewed during this period.
Employment is conditional upon:
Legal eligibility to work in Canada
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, if required
Signing the Confidentiality Agreement
Signing the Code of Conduct
Compliance with the Respectful Workplace Policy
Compliance with company policies and procedures
The role requires extended standing for prolonged periods, frequent lifting of 30-60 lbs, and the ability to work in high-heat, fast-paced commercial kitchen environments.
