SEEKING IN OTTAWA: Optical Test Engineer

Job Description

This role involves testing a wide variety of third-party optical transceivers, including modules ranging from 1G SFP to QSFP28. The position requires a candidate with the experience to quickly engage in testing tasks, focusing on signal integrity and components such as VCAs and VOAs. You will work at the bench level in the lab using optical test equipment.

Responsibilities

- Engage with plug owners from the start to review requirements for new or existing plugs.
- Assess vendor quality, request samples, and conduct testing and verification.
- Ensure compliance with CPS by creating standards for new plugs, starting from IEEE standards.
- Perform initial and system-level testing to identify and resolve integration issues.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams and external vendors to troubleshoot, communicate effectively, and develop solutions.
- Submit documentation through Agile and occasionally debug field issues in-house.

Essential Skills

- 2+ years of Optical Test experience with transceivers/pluggable modules.
- Experience interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams or suppliers.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficiency with lab equipment such as VNAs and optical spectrum analyzers.
- Bachelor’s or above degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics.
- Experience with optical and electrical test methods and equipment.
- Experience with optical transceiver hardware, test measurements, and lab skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Solid interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of fibre optic communications.
- Experience with software lab tools like MATLAB for simulation and test automation.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Ottawa, ON. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Workplace Type
