Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling livestock and aiding in the operation of our auction sales. The job is in a barn and hours are determined by the size of our sales. All livestock handlers must help in the preparation, and following the conclusion of the auction sales. Extra hours can be given to those that want to take on additional tasks. Previous experience with livestock is mandatory for this position.

Ontario Stockyards Inc. opened in February of 1994. Our company is an auction barn that markets livestock. We sell sheep, lambs, goats, veal, cows, bulls, stockers, and bred cows. We are a family business that prides itself on creating fair market value for livestock in Ontario. We utilize our solid relationships with our buyers to get the most for farmers in Ontario and across Canada. We sell livestock to buyers both locally and across North America.

Ontario Stockyards is conveniently located in Cookstown, Ontario on Highway 89, just minutes from Highway 400. Our site has ample parking that can accommodate all sizes of vehicles.

Duties

- Assist with the safe movement and handling of livestock during auctions and daily operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the auction barn, pens,



and surrounding areas to promote safety and efficiency
- Help prepare for auctions, including sorting cattle, penning cattle, moving cattle, and assisting management with any pressing tasks
- Ensuring all livestock are moved onto feed and water following the sales
- Record pen numbers and buyer numbers when moving livestock
- Follow safety protocols diligently to protect yourself, coworkers, animals, and visitors at all times

Requirements

- Physical ability to perform strenuous tasks throughout the workday
- Experience working with livestock is preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with a positive attitude
- Strong attention to safety procedures and animal welfare standards
- Willingness to learn new skills related to livestock handling and auction operations

Pay: $17.60-$22.00 per hour
