Audio Visual Installation Technician

Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Audio Visual Installation Technician to install and service audiovisual, security-camera, and low-voltage systems at residential and commercial locations. This role involves running and terminating cables, mounting televisions and speakers, installing cameras, connecting equipment, testing completed systems, and maintaining clean, professional job sites.
Responsibilities
- Run, route, secure, label, and organize low-voltage cables through walls, ceilings, conduits, and cable trays.
- Install and mount televisions, projectors, displays, speakers, microphones, cameras, racks, and related hardware.
- Terminate and test network, audio, video, coaxial, speaker, and control cables.
- Install surveillance cameras and connect them to recording or monitoring systems.
- Assemble equipment racks and connect audiovisual components.
- Read floor plans, wiring diagrams, elevations, and installation instructions.
- Configure and test installed equipment to confirm proper operation.
- Diagnose and repair cabling, connection, signal, and equipment issues.
- Patch walls or openings and leave installation areas clean and presentable.
- Maintain accurate cable labels, test results, equipment records, and job documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and project managers.
- Follow electrical codes, workplace safety requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
- Safely operate ladders, lifts, drills, testers, and other installation tools.
- Travel between job sites and assist other installation team members as required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in audiovisual installation, structured cabling, security systems, electrical work, construction, or a related trade is preferred.
- Basic understanding of televisions, speakers, cameras, networks, and low-voltage wiring.
- Experience terminating and testing Cat5e/Cat6, coaxial, speaker, HDMI, and other AV cables is an asset.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, cable testers, ladders, and lifts.
- Ability to read measurements and follow technical drawings and instructions.
- Robust troubleshooting, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Careful attention to cable management, equipment alignment, and installation quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass any required background check.
Physical and Scheduling Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to [50 lb/23 kg].
- Ability to climb ladders and work above ceilings or in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and use tools for extended periods.
- Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, overtime, or out-of-town work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience installing commercial or residential AV systems.
- Familiarity with IP cameras, network switches, NVRs, amplifiers, control systems, and equipment racks.
- Knowledge of Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Control4, Sonos, Ubiquiti, Hikvision, Axis, or similar systems.
- Relevant certifications in AV, networking, security, working at heights, or lift operation.
