First District Mechanical is creating a new senior position to help build and shape our commercial Gas A service capabilities.
Senior HVAC Service Technician – Class A Gasfitter
Port Coquitlam, BC | Full-time | Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
Base wage: $60–$72 per hour
Annualized base earnings: $128,960–$149,760 based on 2,080 regular hours
We’re not hiring a Gas A licence. We’re hiring the technician behind it.
First District Mechanical is creating a new senior position to help build and shape our commercial Gas A service capabilities.
We’re looking for an experienced technician who can solve difficult problems, communicate confidently with customers, support the rest of the team and become one of FDM’s key technical resources.
If you’re the person other technicians call when the answer isn’t obvious, we should talk.
The chance
FDM is intentionally expanding its commercial Gas A portfolio, and the person we hire will have an opportunity to influence how that part of the company develops.
You will remain hands-on in the field while becoming a trusted resource for complex commercial service work, large gas-fired equipment, boilers, burners, hydronic systems and HVAC/mechanical troubleshooting.
Over time, this position could develop into one of FDM’s senior technical-authority and mentorship roles.
Our ideal candidate
Our highest-value candidate has:
- A current B.C. Class A Gas Fitter qualification
- Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic certification
- Strong commercial HVAC/R service and troubleshooting experience
Red Seal Refrigeration is strongly preferred, but it is not mandatory.
We will seriously consider an exceptional Gas A technician with extensive commercial boiler, burner, hydronic, gas-fired equipment, HVAC or mechanical service experience.
We are not interested in hiring someone simply because they possess the ticket. We want someone who has meaningful experience using it.
What you’ll do
- Diagnose and repair complex commercial HVAC, gas and mechanical system problems
- Service, maintain and retrofit boilers, burners, hydronic systems and other large gas-fired equipment
- Troubleshoot rooftop equipment, make-up air systems and related commercial HVAC equipment
- Support refrigeration service work where your qualifications and experience allow
- Take ownership of service calls from initial diagnosis through repair, documentation and customer communication
- Explain equipment conditions and repair recommendations clearly and professionally
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to apprentices and developing technicians
- Work with the Service Manager to strengthen FDM’s Gas A knowledge, standards and service capabilities
- Complete accurate service documentation and follow applicable codes and safety requirements
- Participate in the company’s after-hours on-call rotation
- Travel to commercial and select strata client sites throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
Required qualifications
- Current B.C. Class A Gas Fitter Certificate of Qualification
- Substantial hands-on experience performing work under your Gas A qualification
- Strong commercial service, diagnostic and troubleshooting experience
- Demonstrated experience with commercial gas-fired or mechanical equipment
- Valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s licence
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for difficult service calls
- Professional customer communication and service documentation
- A team-first attitude and willingness to help less-experienced technicians develop
Strongly preferred
- Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic certification
- Commercial HVAC/R service experience
- Advanced boiler, burner and hydronic troubleshooting experience
- Experience with large commercial gas-fired equipment
- Electrical and controls troubleshooting ability
- Retrofit, commissioning or complex mechanical-system experience
Compensation and schedule
The base wage for this position is $60–$72 per hour, based on credentials, commercial service experience and demonstrated technical ability.
At 2,080 regular hours per year, that represents annualized base earnings of approximately $128,960–$149,760, before any additional earnings that may apply.
This is a true full-time, year-round position.
We are building this role into FDM’s long-term commercial service operation and intend to keep the successful technician working consistently throughout the year.
The position normally involves:
- Eight-hour workdays
- Typical hours of approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Participation in the after-hours on-call rotation
- Work throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
- Reporting directly to the Service Manager
