Job Overview

Food Storage & Safety
- Follow food-safety and sanitation procedures.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures as required.
- Follow appropriate stock-rotation procedures, including First-In, First-Out (FIFO).
- Ensure food is stored safely and correctly.
- Immediately report damaged, spoiled, recalled, or unsafe products.
- Maintain required food-safety and temperature records.
Hamper Preparation & Distribution
- Prepare food hampers according to household size and established guidelines.
- Include culturally appropriate food options when available.
- Coordinate with the Client Coordinator regarding daily hamper requirements.
- Assist with client pickup and food distribution.
- Help load and unload food for deliveries, donations, and community programs.
Warehouse Organization
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse.
- Keep aisles, exits, refrigerators, freezers, shelving, and work areas accessible.
- Break down boxes and properly dispose of waste and recycling.
- Clean and sanitize food-handling surfaces and equipment.
- Report maintenance, pest-control, equipment, or safety concerns.
Volunteer Support
- Provide practical direction to warehouse and distribution volunteers.
- Demonstrate safe lifting, sorting, packing,
and food-handling practices.
- Help maintain a respectful and welcoming environment for volunteers and clients.
Documentation
- Complete inventory, receiving, distribution, temperature, and waste records accurately.
- Support collection of food-distribution statistics.
- Report inventory discrepancies or operational concerns to the supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the receipt, inspection, and proper storage of incoming food donations, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
- Perform order picking using warehouse management systems to prepare food packages for distribution accurately and promptly.
- Load and unload trucks safely while adhering to safety protocols for heavy lifting and equipment operation.
- Maintain organized storage areas, ensuring easy access for inventory management and distribution needs.
- Support shipping and receiving activities by documenting shipments, verifying contents, and managing inventory records.
Qualifications
- Previous warehouse, grocery, food-bank, inventory, or food-handling experience is an asset.
- Food Safety/Food Handler certification is preferred or willingness to obtain it.
- Basic computer and inventory-recording skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and attentive to detail.
- Valid driver's license is an asset.
